Money off you council tax if you have a room adapted for therapy in some way Direct Payments Flexibility in your working hours - there is legislation in place Cinema Card - offers free entry to a carer (this costs £5 per year) and some places let carer in for nothing. Guest guest
A very good book to have re background to social services assessments and what they should lead to, also discusses human rights and disability is Disabled Children and the Law ( Kingsley publishers, available from Amazon via the TA website). Make sure you get the second edition. It came out before the lates LA complaints system came in, so, like any book discussing the law, is never bang up to date, but it's very good. No point having an assessment if you don't get services at the end of it! Not an entitlement, but useful: 1. Caudwell Charity who fund biomed and start-up for Sonrise. I also heard they helped a family doing ABA. 2. Cerebra have interesting and useful grants: eg vouchers for £350, not means tested, to help you pay for a solicitor to set up a Will Trust for your disabled child. Also holiday grants. And a free bungalow, but they're booked already for next year. Applications for 2009 will be accepted from 1 January 2008. Two professional letters of support required, so need to plan in advance. (I make a mental note myself to do this!) 3.Family Fund can help families on lowish incomes with disabled child under 16 with various items, also driving lessons for carer if you can show you'd have access to a car afterwards eg high rte mobility DLA. 4. Some areas have a carer's contingency fund to help support carers. Ours has a budget of £nil this year. Guest guest
Direct payments/respite care won't be offered until you have had a completed core assessment (get a carer's one at the same time)and have an assessed need at alevel that comes within your LA's eligibiulity criteria for help. Get a copy of these before you start and find out which categories get help. Then a Care Plan should be drawn up stating what services are to be provided. Only at that point do the soecified services become an entitlement. In law they can only then remove them after doing a full reassessment and deciding you don't need them any more. If you are in Cambridgeshire, the LA will ignore the law and remover them any way! Guest guest
I've got a leaflet here (Can't remember where it came from) and there seem to be a few charities that can offer help to families with disabled children. Some give one off grants of cash, grants towards bedding, essential furniture, equipment relating to disabilty... I'm preparing a letter to send out to them describing Nic and what we are doing re biomed, diet and home programme. I'm also planning on listing what we need, from organic mattress to funding for HBOT. I'm hoping the saturation technique will result in a few donations being made!!! The leaflet is 14 double sided pages long. If anyone wants me to post or fax them a copy you can email me off list if you like.
