Guest guest
Hi , that's what I'm going to do. I know that I can do it and I will. Jen nancydewolf wrote: Hi Jen... Here's another idea, and this works for me when my schedule does not follow a routine (like during school breaks, as in now for example or when I'm doing a lot of subbing and again, am out of my routines for a period)... if you can plan just one day ahead (as in tomorrow) then it CAN work for you... Take a look at tomorrow's schedule. What do you have to do? Where do you have to be various places and at what times? What times do you have to leave and when will you get home? When will you fit in meals? What else MUST be done? Okay, now that you know what tomorrow looks like, where can you slot in a workout? And, since you can figure out where you can probably do a workout, figure out how long you'll have and then choose a workout that works within your time constraints. (I know you've got a rotation planned but if a particular day won't support the workout you have planned, then perhaps you can modify the plan instead of throwing out the workout time?) Anyway, this is something I do every day these days. My schedule is all over the place so I'm looking at the calendar for tomorrow right now and seeing where I have to be and when and figuring out what else must get done that day and when I'll do those things (eating would be a major one, housework much more minor) and then I plan on that time slot right there to be my workout time. I PLAN on it. I don't just wishfully hope that I can make it happen. I PLAN on it. I don't normally write it on my calendar as an appointment because it is so firm in my mind and I want to do it (most of the time) but sometimes I do and I know that helps some people too. My tomorrow (Friday) is up in the air actually right now because of my son having pink eye. I was planning on taking him to the orthodontist (to get his braces off and get his retainer) at 11 but I don't know that they'll want to see him (I called and left a message and will not hear back from them until the morning). I know I want to sleep in a bit (until at least 8:30) and for now I'm planning on being busy all morning. I also have to go grocery shopping and make dinner. At this time, I am planning to do my workout sometime around 3 PM. If the ortho doesn't want to see him I'll do my workout in the morning instead and go grocery shopping right afterwards because I'm usually better for a workout earlier in the day (and am more likely to do it, that's just something I've observed about myself). I've got 2 plans going now depending on what happens with the ortho. I even have a 3rd last ditch effort backup plan if all else goes haywire and since my evening is now open, I can get something in then. I know I probably want to do Ripped to the Core but if I don't work out until 7:30 PM it likely will be a shorter, more cardio type workout instead. The main idea is take one day at a time and figure out what will work for that day, if necessary with one or more backup plans. If your day's plans ends up changing (say you get a call in the morning to interpret in the evening and you were planning to work out but want to do the job) then either you scrap the workout for that day if you have to (and don't feel guilty about it either) or you figure out where else you might do it instead (if possible). The way I explained my thinking it sounds like a lot of work and at first it might seem that way but at this point it is 2nd nature for me (I am a planner, list maker, etc. anyway). This is working for me anyway. Let me know if you think it might help you! I'd also be interested in hearing about modifications you'd make. (If you all haven't guessed, just like I share some things discussed in my WW meetings here, I also share ideas I learn here in my WW meetings to help members so you might be helping other people if you share how you handle the schedule variability.) Thanks Jen (and anyone else who contributes)! Re: Christmas Day: Kathy Power Walk for Weight Loss Great job on becoming a consistent exerciser! Now you can help me....please Jen nancydewolf <nancydewolfsbcglobal (DOT) net> wrote: With all the junk I've been eating since yesterday I needed a workout! Plus, today is my 1 year anniversary as a consistent exerciser!! Yes, last year, like this year, I had extra time between festivities and decided to get a workout in. For some reason, last year it kicked off my wanting to exercise consistently, starting with 2 days a week, then 3, then more. Now I'm usually averaging between 4 and 6, sometimes 3 and sometimes 7 but mostly 5. I don't know why except that it had been buzzing around in my head for a long time and on Christmas Day 2006 I just started! :-) Anyway, today I didn't have a lot of time so I did the 30 minute walking workout. DH got me 3 lb. dumbbells (I thought! I had 3 pounders before but when I weighed them I found out they were actually 2.5 pounds) among other things for Christmas (gifts of fitness posting coming later or tomorrow, we're due at my mother-in-law's soon) and I used those for the first time. For those not familiar, this workout uses hand weights for upping the cardio work and for some upper body and standing abs toning mostly while you're in motion (you don't have to use weight though, a modifier uses no weights). I would have never thought an extra 1 total pound, between both dumbbells, would really make much of a difference but holy cow, it sure did! I got such an awesome workout today! I was working so hard it seemed like a totally different workout than what I had been doing with this one! I'm noticing my cardio endurance has really shot up lately with all the cardio I've been doing, especially the more challenging workouts (like this one today) and that's pretty cool. Anyway, gotta run. Merry Christmas to everyone!!
Guest guest
Way to go !!!!Darcy Good for you Jen!!! I was able to use my option A for today. My son's orthodontist said it was fine to bring him in and he got his braces off, then we went grocery shopping and home. I got my workout in starting just after 3:30 (will post it separately). I REALLY did not want to work out this afternoon either. I REALLY did not want to but I know that having made the plan ahead of time and telling myself this IS what I am going to do (and having the backup plans) made it happen. I gave myself no outs and I feel GREAT for having done it despite my afternoon attitude (I hate exercising in the middle of the day, it just feels disruptive). You'll do great too! Now I have to work on tomorrow's plan...
