Guest guest
If you DASH to the max my guess is that you can come off Lision which does not work in PA and Systolic which does not work in BP,Again DASHing is a key to this treatment. ceg Had doc visit this afternoon; blood drawn on Wednesday, July 16. My potassium was excellent at 4.5 (haven't seen this in a long, long while). A couple weeks ago they switched me from Spiro to Amiloride becuz of stomach issues with Spiro. When I was on Spiro, my potassium was at 3.5. Also, kidney function is very good. Only bummer was my BP was 140/95. Just yesterday I had a home reading of 120/78 and this morning's reading was 131/76! So he wouldn't reduce any of my BP meds; only reduced Klor-Con from 2/day to 1/day. Current meds:Hydralazine - 100 mg/3x dayAmiloride - 10 mg/2x dayBystolic - 20 mg dayKlor-Con - M20 1x dayLisinopril - 20 mg daySertraline - 50 mg dayCan't wait to get off some of these BP meds.....2 much!Told him about his group and the excellent info online. Guest guest
That is excellent. lower is always better but would stay where you are and work with MD to step down other meds.I would stop lision first, the bys but work with the team there. How long were you on spiro? and what was the BP and K reponse. Guest guest
I was on Spiro for 2 months. BP was running anywhere from 140/90 to 167/90 and my K was at 3.3 to 3.5. It was after one month on Spiro I started getting very loose bowels and then diarrhea---that's when they switched me to Amiloride (20 mg/day) just 2.5 weeks ago. I also was breaking out into sweats for no reason and periods ceased all together where at first they were light, but coming every 2 weeks it seemed. I feel much better on the Amiloride...not as tired at all. What's odd is I was on 200 mg Spiro about 4 years ago, but I didn't have diarrhea; I just experienced more frequent periods. Now I haven't had a regular period since the end of May. I did just turn 50, but when I was in the hospital at the end of April/beginning of May when I was 49, I did not experience any menopause symptoms. That's too coincidenal... Guest guest
I started out on 50mg/day, and then kidney doc upped it to 100 mg/day when blood test came back with 3.4 potassium. 4 years ago I was only being treated by my primary doc - no endoc or kidney docs. I was in the hospital for pneumonia & influenza with very high BP. That's when it was discovered my potassium was very low. He did urine sampling on me...but all I remember him saying was it came out fine. After being on the Spiro back then for a few months, it started messing with my periods so I got off of it, but was never replaced with any other potassium-holding drug. So for 4 years (until now) I've just been on various BP meds, but pressure never came down. And I was not Dx with PA until this last hospital stay. As far as measuring Na, I just read the nutrition labels. Should I be doing something else also?? Guest guest
You should consider getting the Cl sticks used to test your urine mentioned in prev emails back in June as I recall. Almost all urine Cl comes from NaCl.Using these you can see how much you are eating. But if you read every food label and fix everything youself you should be OK.Was it Pneumonia or CHF?Again if spiro controlled your BP then inspra should be the next step. Any adrenal imaging done?CE Grim MDI started out on 50mg/day, and then kidney doc upped it to 100 mg/day when blood test came back with 3.4 potassium. 4 years ago I was only being treated by my primary doc - no endoc or kidney docs. Guest guest
Oh, my....LOL! I'm in Kansas. Clogged came from my primary doctor...clogged nodules. I come from a large family. 8 brothers and sisters. My dad developed HTN in his 50's. He actually died of kidney cancer in 1999 at the age of 70. My mom developed HBP about 10 years ago, but is very controlled with her med (shoots up when she goes to the dr.)...she is 80. One of my younger sisters just started taking meds about a month ago for her HBP (she is 48). Other than that, no one else in the family has it. No history of low K for anyone except me. I was told by my kidney doc that PA is not hereditary?? Is that correct? He said it's just something I got...no fault of my own. I don't eat licorice. You pretty much have my complete story here...never posted it though. And, yes, I did get the welcome.. Guest guest
Remember he is likely taking care of others like you and giving the article to him may help them. He is very unlikely to go online and find it IHME.No relation to any cancer that we know of.I would recommend the Endo group at KU in KC but dont know anyone there for sure. You can go the the Am Soc of HTN site and look for HTN speicalists in your area.CE Grim MDI live in Overland Park, KS---suburbs. Both my docs are in Kansas City, Missouri - just a few miles from me over the state line. So this could be inherited. Does my dad's kidney cancer correlate in any way??I read your article, but didn't take to doc. I told him about it and where to find online. Re: Kidney doc visit If you DASH to the max my guess is that you can come off Lision which does not work in PA and Systolic which does not work in BP,Again DASHing is a key to this treatment. cegHad doc visit this afternoon; blood drawn on Wednesday, July 16. Hopefully doc will check it out!
Guest guest
That's true - don't see him again for another couple months; will give him copy. A friend of mine works there-she gave me a name of a doc in that group. She's only been practicing for 5 years--don't know if that make a difference. Thanks for your recommendations.
