Guest guest
renin and aldo predict he will not respond to ACE-I should have been the note.Good notes but have not read my article obvisouly. Cortisol was not needed in urine unless you looked Cushingoid. Aldosterone is what should have been measured. Well the VA can do both so that is best actually.Sorry always give both the aldo and the renin numbers so I dont have to back calculate. Again if BP and you are doing good then sit tight. If not request a trial of spiro which is now being widely recommended for difficult HTN PA or not.CE Grim MDCE Grim MDOn Jul 18, 2010, at 8:32 AM, Francis Bill SUSPECTED PA wrote:Just a bit of what is in my VA record By three different Providers. Guest guest
Prob a combo of both but what we eat overwhelms the other. If you eat lots of stuff then you are almost certainly getting plenty of Vits. Guest guest
The JNC 7 says that and the new JNC 8 will also not to mention JNC 1-6. The problem is few Drs read the guidelines and even fewer follow them. You might what to go to ALLHAT.com to read how the publication of this landmark study failed to chance prescribing habits. That either medical schools are not teaching how to DX PA or that med students are skipping classes on PA. How do we fix this problem?Do we try to get the Medical schools to change how they teach about Conn's?I am not a big fan of sueing Dr. Sometime it has to be done. Is this what it is going to take?Do we go to all the states and request that for a Dr be licensed in there state they have to know how to test for Conn's?Do we go to places like the American Heart Association and request that they educate everyone on Conn's? > > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > If you have limited funds then you are limited > > as to> > > > > > > health> > > > > > > > > care> > > > > > > > > > > > > choices. Guest guest
It is of interest that by age 6 months we know that BP is higher if one or both of your parents have HTN-at least in the US. Also twin studies show that it is highly heritable by this same age. CE Grim MDDid he ever work with animals or keep pets?Or mow grass?Smoke, drink - what'd he drink? Ran into this when we wanted to test Yale Medical Students using the BP Testing program we developed at UCLA and INDY. They said our students are so good they do not need to be tested. Guest guest
Most of the questions on our survey would not apply to people that don't have PA. If we're seriously interested in symptoms, the group could come up with a survey that could include the previously listed symptoms and others anyone would like to include. I could make duplicate surveys, post one URL here for people diagnosed with PA to do, you could post the URL for the duplicate survey on bloodpressureline for people without PA to take. We would include age and sex. I meant to mention before, 62% of respondents on our survey are 50 years of age or older. I think that would have a definite impact on some of the symptoms listed. Not many in group have full time brain fog many have it sometimes. I do have it all the time. Have been asked to describe it. Something I really can't can't put in words to make other understand. Of course it has nothing to do with Conn's. >> I had brain fog literally till the day after my surgery. It was the first> thing I noticed that was gone. Guest guest
Granted. What I meant was the influence of other existing conditions on symptoms. For instance, 46% of respondents in our survey said they had numbness or tingling of extremeties. Is this a symptom of PA or another comorbid condition? In my case I also have PAD, so is my numbness and tingling due to PA or PAD? Probably impossible to say. Diabetic neuropathy can also cause. Guest guest
You want to ask all if they have ever had to take K. Go back as far as you can and list age and cause of death as best the family recalls. There is an NIH site that will help .See below under 5 Welcome1. Read my article in our files on the evolution of PA (Evolution_of_PA-Grim.pdf ) and take to all members of health care team. Tell us what stage you believe you are in.2. Read our Conn's stories files and then give us your own in as much detail as you can. To see others' stories, on the Hyperaldosteronism home page, go to Files/Conns Stories. You'll find instructions in "A - How to put your story here.doc " 3. Get the DASH diet book by T. et al, read it and use it. $8 in paperback at your local bookstore.or go to http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.pdfdownload this 64 page booklet free and do the Week on the DASH Diet for 2 weeks. If you are on BP meds be prepared for a large fall in BP and let your Dr. know you are doing this.4. Measure your BP daily so you can see if it is getting better. If you are taking meds be sure to tell your health care team you are doing this as your BP may plummet to normal quickly.5. Go to familyhistory.hhs.gov and do your detailed family medical history so we can review with you to help Dx familial causes of high blood pressure and heart disease. If BP runs in your family you may save others in your family by checking their BP yourself.6. Go to our file/Conn's Articles of Note/Medications/Bravo spir 1973.pdf and read this article and take to your health care team.7. If you have been Dxed with PA already and are on Rx or have had surgery please go to http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=HIJIO_f2685379 and complete our survey with as much information as you know. If there is some information you don'k know ask us and we will help. If you need to update this as you journey thru the diagnostic/treatment process you can add another entry but label it as Nameyymmdd. For example today 6/12/09 for me would be Grim090612. This ever increasing number will allow us and you to sort your multiple entries into a dated order. 8. If you are new to medical lingo then download the acroyms from http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/bloodpressureline/message/291869. Go to NIH and see if you are interested and qualify for their free testing in Bethdesda , MD.Clarence E. Guest guest
There is a familial form of adenomas PA type 2 as I recall. It is discussed in my article. I have never seen two family members with this and we looked very hard at Indy. I think Dr. Conn had a pair of brothers but never published as such.It is conceivable to me that if depression is associated with bursts of ACTH then this should be considered a possible driving force for the hyperplasia and adenoma(s). Same for stress response. Esp when combined with a low sodium diet. You might want to do a pubmed on Whitworth J from Australia who has shown that ACTH infusion can cause HTN in humans, sheep and maybe rats.CE Grim MDOn Jul 18, 2010, at 2:10 PM, Francis Bill SUSPECTED PA wrote:One of my interests is If adenomas them selves are heredity. Guest guest
Right-I have found numbness and tingling a Sx of advanced PA mostly. The only way we know if this is a good Sx to use in getting to the Dx is to compare it in many other pts with HTN not due to PA.So we need to develop a complete Hx that will ask all the needed questions and then have everyone with HTN fill it out. I have sent some to our right hand person working on this. So if any out there have a list of questions "I wish my Drs had asked me early on" that would be a help.I think Bill has been keeping a list.Granted. Guest guest
Hey Carole, You mentioned you were doubled over in kidney pain at one time in your post. Do you remember if you were on a bp med and if so what type? I have found that I get kidney pain on certain bp meds, like arb’s and bb’s but not so much with ccb’s. Guest guest
Hi Charlotte~I was on Spiro-diuretic and Nifedipine- calcium channel blocker. I also took Topomax for migraines and Potassium horse pill supplements during the day. They had me on estrogen/hormones and something else as I went through early menopause. It was tough keeping track of them all! I am no longer on any meds now. Before surgery--I had been on the HP meds for years, but they switched my diuretic once Conn's was diagnosed. The kidney pain was most prevalent the last year I had Conn's. I was urinating 5-6 times a night-seriously. My urine was darker and more concentrated and it became painful as it was voluminous. I was really sick that last year. Whether the drugs caused the brain fog or whatever, I'll never know- but I do know the tumor caused everything to break down in my body, especially the last two years. Hope this helps. Are you a candidate for surgery?Carole Hey Carole, You mentioned you were doubled over in kidney pain at one time in your post. Do you remember if you were on a bp med and if so what type?
