Best Abdominal Exercises?

What are considered and proven, to be the overall best ab exercises for

defining the abs? I do cardio already but still need some quality exercises

to define my abs.

[Definition of any muscles depends primarily on the amount of body fat

over that region and not on any given exercise. If you are wish to increase

hypertrophy of your entire abdominal region, then you need a combination

of several abdominal exercises done at sufficient intensity, volume and

density (reps per minute). Mel Siff]

I agree to up to a point. Doing aerobics has certain benefits that HIIT

doesn't have like increase in vascularity or capillaries and mitochondria and

certain enzymes. The best way to lose the fat is to diet first and then a

combination of HIIT and aerobics like once per week, of course and weight

lifting.

[Do you have any references which show that HIIT under all circumstances do

not offer any increase in capillarisation, vascularity and mitochondrial density

and that " aerobic exercise " always does? My cardiac surgeon pointed out to me

that he had carried out many thousands of cardiac operations and had not really

noted any significant increase in vascularisation and collateral blood vessel

development in patients who had come in for repeated cardiac surgery despite

some years of aerobic rehabilitation training, even though cardiac function had

been improved. In my case, in the 5-6 years after my bypass surgery I still

have major deficits in my peripheral circulation since my deep saphenous

veins in my lower extremities were removed (for the bypass grafts), despite

plenty of aerobic training. Mel Siff]

Jeff,

You might enjoy taking a look at our new article:

http://www.bodyresults.com/E2FartlekIntervals.asp

called Fartlek Training and Other Interval Workouts, for lots of ideas

on interval training. While we don't specifically use the acronym,

HIIT (high intensity interval training), on our site, you'll discover

a variety of means of training.
