Hi , what a GREAT fitness gift you got and PINK TOO! Jealous, Jen nancydewolf wrote: On the 1st day of Christmas my true love gave to me... 1 set of 1 pound dumbbells 1 set of 3 pound dumbbells I requested both of these because of the workouts with high reps that I want to do, after reading some of your reviews of various workout and some of you needing to go down to very light weights I figured I likely would too. Now I have sets of 1 lb., 2.5 lb., 3 lb. 5 lb. 7 lb. and 8 lb. I want 10s sometime soon too for the heavier weight/lower rep workouts. No videos but that's okay because... ... Santa also brought me.... A POLAR F6 HEART RATE MONITOR!!!!!! (and yes, if you didn't guess, it is the ladies' style in PINK, which is what I wanted) I didn't use it for my workout today because I need to read the manual and get it set up for me. I'M SO EXCITED THOUGH!!! I have to work tomorrow and Thursday so I'm hoping to get it set up and using it by Friday. (I still have to read through the material for tomorrow's meetings so that's what I'm working on tonight.) I got my husband a gift of fitness too (yes, he was my Santa)! He switched job locations a few months ago (the contract changed and he had to move)

and lost privileges at a free gym onsite at the old location with a personal trainer (also free to employees and contractors) so he joined a gym near our house shortly after. He's kept in touch by email with the trainer but misses having the guy watching him and spotting his form and giving him more things to do. He mentioned wanting to work with a trainer at this new gym and even mentioned one by name that my friend, who has been working out there for years, highly recommended when I asked her about it, already thinking about DH's Christmas gift. He didn't think it fit into our budget (he's right) so we decided when we can, we'll add that in. Anyway, I was able to afford two sessions with her and got him a gift certificate to train with her at the gym for 2 one hour sessions! He was thrilled! I was too! I talked with her Saturday and she told me the first session is a complete assessment including body fat analysis, finding out where you are with strength,

skills, etc. (I know I'm not describing this well) and she also does nutritional counseling in that first session too. I told him he's hurt his back a few times working out and I think it is because of bad form (I taught him to pull in his abs and use them to support his back). She suggested he might need more core strengthening and he and I have also been talking about this lately. He's also very thin and has lost weight since starting to work out so he needs to learn to eat healthy (like we normally do) but enough so that he's not losing more weight (I only wish I had that problem but it really is a problem since I do almost all the cooking and I cook primarily low fat, healthy, balanced meals). She says the 2nd session would be teaching him a routine she developed just for him and making sure he knows how to perform all the exercises safely then he could sign up for more sessions later when he's ready to move on and wants a new routine. I asked her if she ever trains outside of the gym (I really liked her) and she said yes, she goes to clients' homes and trains them there too so I might have a session with her at some point too. I was VERY impressed with her. I told her I workout with videos and told her about the equipment I have here. She said a lot of times she trains one half of a couple and that person teaches the other person what they've learned so I'm sure we'll do that too. I'll send him in with questions I have too! I used to work out at this same gym but no longer belong because I've come to the conclusion that I don't like most of the machines. I love the elliptical, pool and treadmill and I've worked out with trainers there (loved it) but the weight machines are just made for much bigger people than me. No matter how I adjust them, there are some I have never quite been comfortable using because I'm

so small. I also have to adjust everything on them every single time I use each machine and that gets really old, really quickly. They have free weights too but I never felt comfortable with them because I could never remember what the trainers told me to do. With the videos, I'm much more comfortable and now I think I could go to a gym with a workout written out and could use the weights well but I've got a lot of what I need at home so I don't need to pay for the gym membership right now. I wouldn't mind doing the classes though, now that I have more open time (I asked for the F6 just in case I do want to join again at some point). Anyway, that's our gifts of fitness to each other. I also got him a $15 Apple i tunes gift card because he won an ipod nano over the summer at a company bbq (they raffled off some awesome gifts) and hasn't downloaded anything for it yet because he

was afraid if he bought one song he'd open up the floodgates! :-) I told him he can download some good tunes to workout with now! My F6 also came with a 30 day free trial for podfitness.com (it says "Polar Heart Rate Training available for your MP3 player) so I might try to figure out how to use the ipod myself and try this out too! :-) Very fun Christmas. The kids meanwhile are happily drowning in Webkinz stuff, Disney Princess and Barbie Princess and Star Wars and we still have one more Christmas celebration (on Friday) to go! Regarding the lack of video workouts under the tree (which I'm not complaining about)... my birthday is in 2 weeks so hopefully I'll get a few then! :-) (who has read

lots of fun emails and wants to reply to all of them but who needs to put the kids to bed and then work on my meeting presentations for tomorrow... it will be interesting to see how many brave souls weigh in tomorrow, I told them they don't have to weigh in, they can use what we call a "no weigh in pass" but they should at least show up for the support of the meeting and preferably weigh in for the accountability... I'll take my own medicine on Thursday, my own usual weigh in day).

whoo-hooo!!! a pink F6!!! you lucky ducky!! michelle and i have

measly F4's...LOL

however, we dont want to use them in group situations, so, yes, if

Thanks so much Carolyn!! My thing was I don't know if I will use it in a group situation or not so I wanted to make sure I could if ended up going that way at some point. For $20 more it made sense (if it had been much more of a difference than that I would have gone with the F4 probably). In my (cough, cough) spare time today (ugh) I've been reading through the manual trying to get myself acquainted with it. I had to work from this morning into the early afternoon, came home to hear my son has pink eye, called the doc and had to take him in right after I had lunch, then pick up prescription eye drops for him, then go to my 2nd set of Thursday meetings in the late afternoon, come home this evening and eat so I read a little in the morning before work, in the doc's office and while waiting at the pharmacy and a little more while I ate dinner. Tomorrow, now that we're not going to a family Christmas party (lots of kids there, not a good thing with pink eye) I'll have the whole day to get myself more acquainted with my new friend!

The Pink Pussycat is envious you got one in PINK! I looked at my HRM the other day and the battery is dead :( Does the chest band thingy also need a battery? Can I take it to a jewler to do?Sorry if this is going to create a duplicate post...Look forward to hearing your HRM readings, ! Ya!! I agree, gifts of fitness are THE BEST!

You know something funny about pink, I never liked it much until I did the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I bought a pink wicking t-shirt for it and hated how I looked in it (I was also quite overweight so I hated how I looked in everything) but I thought I needed something pink for it. Then a funny thing happened over the last year or two, I've started really liking pink a lot and even started liking that shirt but by the time I liked it it was huge on me and looked like a tent. (My best friend is a lot bigger than me and was very happy to take it off my hands.) I think part of it has to do with having a girly young daughter who LOVES pink (and purple) too. I've always been a jewel tone person definitely not a pastel pink person but pink has grown on me and I knew that if I was going to have one of these, only the pink model would do. (I still do NOT want pink tools though... when I use tools, which isn't very often but I can if I have to, I like manly tools, not pink ones.)

Hopefully I'll start using the HRM by this weekend and posting stats with it. I'm still learning about it now. I have to admit it overwhelms me a bit (all the stuff it does and trying to figure out to use it all) so I'm taking it in little chunks for now.

I know nothing about your questions about HRMs though, hopefully someone else can answer them. Good luck with yours!

(pretty in pink!)
