Dr. McCormick,

There are some panels that undercut the profession greatly. They either don't interact with the providers, don't hire enough of our profession to over see the system and protocols or ask for too much paperwork to justify the fee schedule. I'd advise you to speak with other doctors off the list about this. I would urge others on the list not to comment negatively about specific insurance groups on this list. It could be seen as libel. If you sign up for all panels, including those that undercut the more chiropractic friendly panels, the chiro friendly panels will potentially lose their contracts. The way this works is: different insurance groups look to get doctors to sign on. The ones that have the largest numbers can bid a lower price/fee schedule, to the insurance companies. So by joining ALL groups, you effectively cut your pay because the more chiro friendly panels lose their negotiating ability.

I will tell you that although, in my opinion, the fee schedule for exams is too low in CHP, (the Kaiser chiropractic plan), I will always stay with them as a provider because they are owned and operated by our profession. They listen to input from providers, offer complimentary CEUs for both doctors and staff (CAs); they do their best to get the best policy language and fees for us. It becomes a challenge when other larger groups that I won't name, can under cut the fees by virtue of so many doctors signing contracts with them.
