Guest guest
I posted last time that they think that I do not have CMT but HSNI another hereditary neurological disease, but with it I have the charcot foot and similar physical clinical signs.I have a broken left foot which has been slow to heal and I am still wearing the CAM boot. I was fitted last week at Rothman Institute for a smaller supportive brace that will go into my shoe. I am swimming everday at the Sheraton and now I go to my friends house everynight and we have put together an exercise program with music that we do in the pool and it takes about an hour. The weather has been very hot and I am grateful to have my friend with the pool. I am nervous about switching to a smaller brace for my foot because I feel protected in the cam boot.I am on LTD from my job and they will be re-evaluating in Sept. I am still paying my health insurance under COBRA,it is expensive but I have to have health insurance. I am going to a Holistic Health Counselor and changing my diet. She thinks I should see a Dr. for Accupuncture. I could not write for a long time because I lost my password. loaves.1957
Guest guest
Hi Gretchen, I have a very supportive orthotic that my podiatrist made for me. Is there such a thing as too much support? I'm guessing not.
Guest guest
Hi , Orthotics should give the best fit and stability. I'm not keen on Podiatrists making suitable orthotics - this is from my personal experience. Once I saw a Board Certified Orthotist who was correctly trained and examined/measured my feet, legs, hips, and spine, I knew I was in the 'right' place. Stefan explained to me that well-fitting orthotics should not even be 'felt' in my shoes - rather it should just feel like I am walking normally. He was right. Too much support could also throw off one's balance and gait and be distributing weight unevenly maybe causing pain even. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Gretchen, Yea my podiatrist didn't do any measurements, except maybe of my feet. How do I find a podiatrist nearby? Thank you,
Guest guest
Hi , Try http://cpeds.org to find a Board Certified Orthotist. On the left side of that page, click on 'Locate a C.Ped'. Perhaps your Internist or Orthopedist can recommend one also. That's how I found Stefan, my Internist suggested I go see him. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi , You need to fight this. The insurance company shouldn't have a say in who needs or gets an orthotic. The doctor should be the judge on that.
