Guest guest
Hi , I have done SCD for many years now for my children. So many - that I forgot if it is 4 or 5 years, but anyway.. my children are very sensitive to food and even on scd they have to be restricted - but it is a very good diet for many children. Both of my children are growing much better now and look much better. They are never sick.. and before diet they were always sick. That said - if I were you I would probably - see if enzymes could do the job for you .. I was on Pecanbread for 2 years and it was a very good place to get any question about scd answered - Ulla Denmark Info on SCD Hi everyone,my daughter Sophie has been GFCF for over a year and whilst there have been undoubted improvements there are still big probs with nasties I suspect because she loves carbs sooooo much and I have fallen into the trap of giving her things just because they are GFCF when they are also carb carb and more carb. Anyway sorry to ramble just would be very grateful for any info re SCD as I think we should go down that route but I am quailing at the prospect. I have looked at pecanbread and SCD UK and have read Natasha -McBride's book Gut and Psychology so am interested in any practical tips esp from people who have done this diet with a carb head like my daughter!!!! Thanks for reading.Emma and Sophie

Guest guest
try many recipes before you start the diet 'for real', to avoid stressing out when you do start. also that way you can tell whether it is going to be possible, what they like and what not, different types of nut flours etc. I also think starting scd gradually is a good idea with our kids, especially picky eaters. some 'hard-line' SCDers say no, no, no, always start with strict intro diet but we did not and it still worked for us. the way we did it was we first stared ds on SCD snacks (coconut biscuits etc), then started scd foods for dinner/suppper, then cut out carbs from lunch as well and then cut out breakfast cereals last. natasa > > > Hi everyone,my daughter Sophie has been GFCF for > > over a year and whilst > > there have been undoubted improvements there are > > still big probs with > > nasties I suspect because she loves carbs sooooo > > much and I have fallen > > into the trap of giving her things just because they > > are GFCF when they > > are also carb carb and more carb. Guest guest
Hi Emma, It's all good advice so far. We went SCD about 2 years ago. Eddie's diet was so restricted it only meant removing potatoes and rice. We saw an immediate improvement. Tim and I are broadly SCD too. We found we had to make bigger meat and veg portions. We eat lots of really nice salads and Tim makes all sorts of spicy/herby curries. Strange how quick you get used to curry without rice :-) Eddie has quite a few salad, veg and fish and meat combinations. The kefir and yoghurt make good drink and puddings when mixed with fruits. Best wishes, Sandy
Guest guest
We tried it, it works beautifully for gut and awareness. You need to be careful she's eating enough calories. It's a bit Atkins - easy to fill up on things that actually don't make you gain weight. And sometimes the lack of stodge makes it feel less satisfying so I've heard of kids being constantly hungry in hte early stages because they're used to that bloated feeling. SOme people recommend actually giving oils by the spoonful (olive oil or whatever's allowed) to keep the calories up. Depends on whether skinniness is her issue. Tom had lovely clear skin and eyes on it but lost a couple of pounds. I'm sure that's avoidable but we didn't know to look out for it. Good luck, Steph x > > Hi everyone,my daughter Sophie has been GFCF for over a year and whilst > there have been undoubted improvements there are still big probs with > nasties I suspect because she loves carbs sooooo much and I have fallen > into the trap of giving her things just because they are GFCF when they > are also carb carb and more carb. Guest guest
We did do this diet for about 8 months and I think it is very healthy. However my pretty skinny boy became even skinnier as it was difficult to get enough calories into him. He got to the ‘ketosis’ point, that is supposed to be good if you are doing atkins and have a few stone to lose! (note to self, get on this diet!) So not good for him in the end. We are back on gluten, dairy, soy, corn free etc. Sal x -----Original Message----- From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of stephaniesirr Sent: 10 October 2007 08:51 To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Subject: Re: Info on SCD We tried it, it works beautifully for gut and awareness. Guest guest
We've been doing SCD now for about 5 months, You can get the calories in using fruit, honey, butternut squash, oils, ghee etc. Once you're further into it you can use nut butters. Nic was assessed last month at our local PCT and in the 6 months since doing biomed has gone from being weedy and sickly looking (Bloated belly, dark circles under eyes, FOUL smelling poos) to the 98th percentile for height and the 94th for weight. SCD is easy for us now. Trying to get mimi on to it (she has UC) she says she'll give it a go if she can still have wine and chocolates... (she's her mother's daughter....) x > > > > Hi everyone,my daughter Sophie has been GFCF for over a year and whilst > > there have been undoubted improvements there are still big probs with > > nasties I suspect because she loves carbs sooooo much and I have fallen > > into the trap of giving her things just because they are GFCF when they > > are also carb carb and more carb.
