Guest guest
Hi, I am in to the third week of low and slow with my 9 year old who had previously been gf/cf for 4 years. We have only been using peptizyde only and he looks terrible - dodgy skin colour and dark circles.Should we be using a general enzyme as well? I don't get the thing of matching the enzyme to the meal as most meals I can think of are mixtures of everything.Lin >>Have you stayed GFCF? Sounds like he may be having some withdrawal/die off reactions. How are his poops? Any change? Mandi x

Guest guest
> I don't get the > thing of matching the enzyme to the meal as most meals I can think of > are mixtures of everything.Lin > We also started on peptizyde first, then added zyme prime, then finally no-fenol. We generally just gave all 3 with most meals, unless it was really obvious eg. milk on weetabix we just gave peptizyde. Once we had established him on all of them, he was given enzymes with everything he ate, snacks and all. Over two years later we are less thorough with it, meals are covered, but we don't panic if he is out and is offered a treat or a snack without enzymes. It has been easy for us because the nursery school noticed such a difference that someone from the LEA approached his current school who agreed to give them before we even asked. Apparently any enzymes not needed to aid digestion of the meal, get utilised in another way in the body, and also contribute to an ongoing reserve for future use - or at least that is the gyst that I understood. We have found them brill, so good luck, hope you get good results. Sue
Guest guest
This is a big risk for us as he had done so well on the diet - so well that he is going to cub camp and sleep overs and generally wants to eat like his peers, which is fantastic.Lin >>>In general the advice is to stay GFCF until you have introduced the enzymes and let any adjustment behaviours settle down. We didn't, just gave boatloads of enzymes for a couple of months and then reduced. What can happen is now the food is being properly digested (diet doesn't improve digestion in and of itself just removes those things likely to be a problem) and in doing that the food matter in the bowel has decreased, which means less food for gut bugs. This happened to us, Sam was hyper with the low level die off we saw with enzymes until we treated for gut bugs. Do you use probiotics? Guest guest
Hi, no we havn't stayed completly gf/cf and his poo seems to be fine. He has also been having probiotics and epsom salts for the last 3 years and we are continuing as before. He has looked a little better since he has had some no fenol and over the years we had always felt that he was more sensitive to that side of things than the gluten and casein. He is due to go to his Gran's the week after next so I may wait to introduce the third enzyme. Thanks for all the replies, I feel better now.
