Guest guest
If you search our files on Conn's stories you will note that your story is not unusual but am surprised about it in Aust with the national health system and all there. Also many heads of Medicine when I was down there were leaders in the HTN area.Your BP is so low because the cause is finally being treated and now the other drugs are pushing your BP down perhaps too low.I would recommend you call you DR ASAP to discuss backing off some of the other drugs.CE Grim MDHELLODR GRIMYes i will read your evolution article and low k was picked up maybe 3-4 years ago. They Guest guest
That is one of the things that I thought when I starting getting really bad. I have had symptoms for several years but about 6 months ago they started getting really bad. That was 6 months after my hysterectomy ( I kept my ovaries) so I thought that maybe I was going through menopause. I am young for it, 40, but some people go through it even sooner. Guest guest
I go to my endo on Tuesday and I'm afraid he will say I don't look either because I'm on a very low salt diet to feel better. I even thought about making myself sick by eating more salt but decided not to. I'm just hoping he will run all of the tests that need to be checked out and will actually listen to me and care t find out what is wrong. Guest guest
Hi ,I feel exactly the same! I don't know whether to do this dash diet or whether to eat normally! When I saw the endo the first time I was eating normally, I was manic, emotional, swollen in a right state with symptoms. Went back again on the diet and even he noticed how I was able to converse and get my point across! So, I said to him it has a lot to do with diet I don't know whether to be on it or not when I come to appointments. I said I am either holding water or very dehydrated and drawn. I said I have a problem with salt and although I look awful, gaunt, dehydrated I feel releif of scarier symptoms when iam like this.He said to go in on my diet and then they want to observe me off my diet and do some hormone investigations.I explained that I must be masking the root cause of what's wrong and maybe causing a different problem on my diet!I also said if you have diabetes you follow a diet to correct it don't you?! I said well I'm obviously holding off what's wrong with me but the diet is not realistic and I can't blimming do it anymore!!Good luck for tuesday mate If I was you I'd the diet and explain and maybe request to be admitted for tests said to him I can't be travelling up n down to london when I'm that ill !!Have you got anyone to go with you? That helps me when I go.You'll be okay, its not normal to have to restrict your salt that much. You will get there, keep your chin up.:)Sent using BlackBerry® from OrangeDate: Sun, 14 Mar 2010 14:00:55 -0500To: <hyperaldosteronism >Subject: Re: Re: Conn's syndrome and spirolactine I go to my endo on Tuesday and I'm afraid he will say I don't look either because I'm on a very low salt diet to feel better. Guest guest
MaccaConn's syndrome is reasonably well understood in Australia. I don't know about Sydney but the Greenslopes Hospital in Queensland has quite a few people working on it research wise and seeing patients and also the Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne which is where I am being treated. The main problem is that Inspra which doesn't give gynecomastia as much as Spiro is not on the subsidised medicine list - PBS is what it is called in Australia. Therefore you are looking at AU$360 a month for a dosage of around 150 mg a day. One packet of 30 is AU$120. That is the main issue. Other than that the disease is well understood. You may have to organise yourself and pay a visit to the Special Medicine Clinic at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne or go to the one in Queensland. The main thing is to radically and drastically cut out salt from your diet and increase your potassium naturally and also if needed with tablets. Amiloride also helps as it keeps the potassium in your system. Spiro and Inspra block the aldosterone from going up which makes you lose potassium and up salt causing high blood pressure whilst Amiloride stops the potassium from leaving. I am on a combination of Amiloride 5 mg; Inspra - 150 mg; Potassium - 2-6 depending on what is happening and Zanidip 20 mg. So far it is working reasonably well.Good luck - it is possible to get help in Australia though if you are on Spiro there will certainly be issues of gynecomastia or as we call it here in Australia - Man Boobs.Subject: Re: Conn's syndrome and spirolactineTo: hyperaldosteronism Received: Monday, 15 March, 2010, 2:04 AM At least you guys don't get the "the change" remarks. > > > > > > > Hi Everyone > > > > My name is 47 years old from sydney australia and i have been > > > > diagosed with conns syndrome after 7 years of firstly high and hard > > > > to control blood pressure.I had conns tests intially when i got high > > > > blood pressure they did everything including blood tests, urine > > > > tests ,a renal dopler (checks veins near kidneys ,i was in hospital > > > > for 2 weeks but they didnt do any avs or ct scans and finally > > > > discounted thst i had conns !!! > > > > Now 7 years later and thousands of tablets later they finally > > > > decided to do a ct scan and found a 12mm tumor on my right adrenal > > > > gland (so i guess it was small when i first got high b/p) .Have been > > > > on spiracton for aprox 8 weeks now but still feeling like crap my bp > > > > has dropped from the usual 150-160/90-100 yes even on all the meds > > > > below to a very low 100/60 , i did have a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago > > > > and had to take the preperation to clear the bowel so probably lost > > > > a lot of fluid and electrolites my b/p went down to 88/58 when i had > > > > the colonoscopy but has risen a little since then although not > > > > much .I better tell you guys what meds i was on and now take well. > > > > > > > > Before 1 x atacand (candesartan cilexetil) 32mg once a day > > > > 1 x gopten (dolopril) 4mg once a day > > > > 1 x betaloc (metropol)100mg twice a day > > > > 1 x potassium chlor 600mg twice a day > > > > 1 x norvasc (amlodipine) 10mg once a day > > > > 2 x zoloft (sertaline) 100mg once a day. > > > > 1 x slow-k potasium 600mg twice a day > > > > 2 x alprazolam 1mg at night > > > > > > > > Now 1 x atacand 32mg once a day > > > > 1 x gopten 4mg once a day > > > > 1 x betaloc twice a day > > > > 2 x zoloft once a day > > > > 1 x spircton 100mg twice a day. > > > > 2 x alprazolam 1mg ayt night > > > > > > > > Now the only trouble is i feel worse than before i am getting > > > > headaches ,really bad digestion and bowel movements(maybe a little > > > > from colonscopy) sterum pain, back pain, light headed at times, hot > > > > flushes and sweat like a fountain when i do most things even when i > > > > sit down on cold days too?? > > > > Im am booked for a hand assisted laproscopic adrenaldectomy for 1 st > > > > april .I have a renal proffessor doing the surgery and my renal > > > > specialist assisting (although i dont have a lot of confidence in this > > > > guy but the professor is great ). > > > > Im getting a lot of conflictiiong opinions from my g.p / my renal > > > > specialist and my brother who is a an emergency doctor. You see my > > > > creatinine (kidneys 50-60% working ) has risen alarmingly and it was > > > > always normal even with high b/p and my pottasium has risen too high > > > > after being too low for 7 years but i have just stopped taking > > > > potassium as per renal specialist ,my brother suggested i shouldnt > > > > be taking anything except spiro as he thinks im dehydrated due to > > > > spiro and thats why all this stuff with my stomach is happening and > > > > also the effects of the colonoscopy and my g.p has just taken me off > > > > the norvasc all together to get the blood pressure back up again to > > > > near normal so out of 3 doctors 3 differing opinions lol. > > > > ive been to hell and back for the last 7 years as most of you have > > > > too the sleepness nights bad headaches ,dizziness sore bones and > > > > muscles bad stomach, foggy head, bad short term memory and > > > > concentration always tired sleepin a lot during the day .I > > > > eventually had to give up my job as i just couldnt do it anymore so > > > > ive been off work for 12 months and most of all depressed for last 6 > > > > or so years oh and libido what libido(lol). > > > > > > > > So any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated .I thank > > > > you guys for this group as conns should be made more aware of .i > > > > think a lot out there that dont know they have it .Im seeing > > > > anethitest on wednesday for chat before op so is there anything i > > > > should ask ???? > > > > I wish you all the best of health . > > > > kind regards > > > > paul > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
If you have not done an AVS then you should not have surgery done as they might take the wrong adrenal out. Spiro dehydrates you as well so most of what is happening is due to dehydration - your brother the doctor is correct - some of this has happened to meSubject: Re: Re: Conn's syndrome and spirolactineTo: hyperaldosteronism Received: Monday, 15 March, 2010, 6:00 AM I go to my endo on Tuesday and I'm afraid he will say I don't look either because I'm on a very low salt diet to feel better. I'm traveling out of town to go my first endo and have already faxed him my spread sheet of abnormal blood tests.etc and mailed them my medical records. I'm hoping to stay all week, as I am off of work anyway. I'm hoping they will do all of the testing neccessary to pin point this mysterious problem. Guest guest
Spiro dose not dehydate you unless you are taking too much. How do you know when your are dehydrated?CE Grim MDIf you have not done an AVS then you should not have surgery done as they might take the wrong adrenal out. Spiro dehydrates you as well so most of what is happening is due to dehydration - your brother the doctor is correct - some of this has happened to meFrom: Stone <astone312suddenlink (DOT) net>Subject: Re: Re: Conn's syndrome and spirolactineTo: hyperaldosteronism Received: Monday, 15 March, 2010, 6:00 AM I go to my endo on Tuesday and I'm afraid he will say I don't look either because I'm on a very low salt diet to feel better. Guest guest
Sounds like you Aussies need to talk to the Brisbane group to get Inspra approved for documented PA. Of course it is always cheaper for the Aussie system if you die.CE Grim MDMaccaConn's syndrome is reasonably well understood in Australia. So far it is working reasonably well.Good luck - it is possible to get help in Australia though if you are on Spiro there will certainly be issues of gynecomastia or as we call it here in Australia - Man Boobs. From: bugstr <bugstr>Subject: Re: Conn's syndrome and spirolactineTo: hyperaldosteronism Received: Monday, 15 March, 2010, 2:04 AM At least you guys don't get the "the change" remarks.> > > > > > > Hi Everyone> > > > My name is 47 years old from sydney australia and i have been > > > > diagosed with conns syndrome after 7 years of firstly high and hard > > > > to control blood pressure.I had conns tests intially when i got high > > > > blood pressure they did everything including blood tests, urine > > > > tests ,a renal dopler (checks veins near kidneys ,i was in hospital > > > > for 2 weeks but they didnt do any avs or ct scans and finally > > > > discounted thst i had conns !!!> > > > Now 7 years later and thousands of tablets later they finally > > > > decided to do a ct scan and found a 12mm tumor on my right adrenal > > > > gland (so i guess it was small when i first got high b/p) .Have been > > > > on spiracton for aprox 8 weeks now but still feeling like crap my bp > > > > has dropped from the usual 150-160/90-100 yes even on all the meds > > > > below to a very low 100/60 , i did have a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago > > > > and had to take the preperation to clear the bowel so probably lost > > > > a lot of fluid and electrolites my b/p went down to 88/58 when i had > > > > the colonoscopy but has risen a little since then although not > > > > much .I better tell you guys what meds i was on and now take well.> > > >> > > > Before 1 x atacand (candesartan cilexetil) 32mg once a day> > > > 1 x gopten (dolopril) 4mg once a day> > > > 1 x betaloc (metropol)100mg twice a day> > > > 1 x potassium chlor 600mg twice a day> > > > 1 x norvasc (amlodipine) 10mg once a day> > > > 2 x zoloft (sertaline) 100mg once a day.> > > > 1 x slow-k potasium 600mg twice a day> > > > 2 x alprazolam 1mg at night> > > >> > > > Now 1 x atacand 32mg once a day> > > > 1 x gopten 4mg once a day> > > > 1 x betaloc twice a day> > > > 2 x zoloft once a day> > > > 1 x spircton 100mg twice a day.> > > > 2 x alprazolam 1mg ayt night> > > >> > > > Now the only trouble is i feel worse than before i am getting > > > > headaches ,really bad digestion and bowel movements(maybe a little > > > > from colonscopy) sterum pain, back pain, light headed at times, hot > > > > flushes and sweat like a fountain when i do most things even when i > > > > sit down on cold days too??> > > > Im am booked for a hand assisted laproscopic adrenaldectomy for 1 st > > > > april .I have a renal proffessor doing the surgery and my renal > > > > specialist assisting (although i dont have a lot of confidence in this> > > > guy but the professor is great ).> > > > Im getting a lot of conflictiiong opinions from my g.p / my renal > > > > specialist and my brother who is a an emergency doctor. You see my > > > > creatinine (kidneys 50-60% working ) has risen alarmingly and it was > > > > always normal even with high b/p and my pottasium has risen too high > > > > after being too low for 7 years but i have just stopped taking > > > > potassium as per renal specialist ,my brother suggested i shouldnt > > > > be taking anything except spiro as he thinks im dehydrated due to > > > > spiro and thats why all this stuff with my stomach is happening and > > > > also the effects of the colonoscopy and my g.p has just taken me off > > > > the norvasc all together to get the blood pressure back up again to > > > > near normal so out of 3 doctors 3 differing opinions lol.> > > > ive been to hell and back for the last 7 years as most of you have > > > > too the sleepness nights bad headaches ,dizziness sore bones and > > > > muscles bad stomach, foggy head, bad short term memory and > > > > concentration always tired sleepin a lot during the day .I > > > > eventually had to give up my job as i just couldnt do it anymore so > > > > ive been off work for 12 months and most of all depressed for last 6 > > > > or so years oh and libido what libido(lol).> > > >> > > > So any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated .I thank > > > > you guys for this group as conns should be made more aware of .i > > > > think a lot out there that dont know they have it .Im seeing > > > > anethitest on wednesday for chat before op so is there anything i > > > > should ask ????> > > > I wish you all the best of health .> > > > kind regards> > > > paul> > > >> > > >> > >> >>

Guest guest
If you have your ovaries you may not be doing menopause. CE Grim MDThat is one of the things that I thought when I starting getting really bad. I have had symptoms for several years but about 6 months ago they started getting really bad. That was 6 months after my hysterectomy ( I kept my ovaries) so I thought that maybe I was going through menopause. I am young for it, 40, but some people go through it even sooner.
