Guest guest
Hello to everyone. I am a 44 yr. old female who has recently been diagnosed with CMT. I do not know which type yet. It has been 8 weeks since I have been to Cleveland Clinic and still no answer from the DNA test. Meanwhile, I am trying my best to remain positive. My symptoms began during an extremely stressful time. I went back to school to become a nurse and during my last semester began having numbness, weakness in my hands and legs. Originally, docs thought it was a mild form of Guillain Barre. My symptoms have subsided somewhat but my hands and forearms seem to be the most bothersome. Fortunately, I have not had much trouble with my feet. I did see a podiatrist and got custom orthotics which have made a difference in how my legs and feet feel. The worst part is not knowing how this will affect me and whether or not my children will be affected. I took the summer off after graduating nursing school to be with my 2 sons and planned to go to work in my new career as a nurse but now I'm scared that it will make the symptoms worse. In a way I feel like the distraction of working part time would be good for me as I seem to be obsessing over CMT. I know that besides taking good care of myself, there isn't anything I can do. I am so happy to have found websites with others who understand. I hope I can help support others in some way as well. Patty
