Guest guest
My gait is a problem as well as my balance so I fall regularly. I have just learned to laugh at my self and as long as I am not hurt I get up and go again. Cathleen
Guest guest
Hi Joana, I am not sure of your question. Falling occurs because of foot drop, weak peroneal muscles (or atrophied ones) and loss of balance. (The peroneal muscles are the ones in the front of your legs). Stable shoes with enough toe box room and lateral support can help, so can AFOs or also SAFOs. The SAFOs are a UK product you might find helpful. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Joana, The physiatrist I was seeing gave me a prescription to get a walker. I didn't like that idea at first. I was embarrassed to even go pick one out. A friend of mine really encouraged me and went with me. Now, I am so happy I have it. I don't use it all the time but when I use it it gives me so much peace of mind. I wear shoes with a wide sole and a thing on the side but I still was twisting my weaker ankle. When I use the walker, I have found I walk without even having to focus on my walking so I can look up and enjoy things around me. It has a seat so I can rest when I need to. I don't worry about finding a bench any more. It has given me more independence. And most of all other people are very friendly. Some people have started to talk to me, one time an older gentleman started flirting with me. It was so cute it made me laugh. I was wishing people my age could be such gentlemen. LOL I have been taking Cymbalta (the chemical name is duloxetine hydrochloride) for depression. It is also prescribed for diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain. I am not sure if they prescribe it in Europe. I couldn't find any info on it in the French physicians desktop reference for medications. Take care, From the sunny side of Michigan, __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Cathleen, I hope all is well! Thank for your email. Considering I got double joints and CMT I don't fall down so regularly, those 3 or 4 times I have done it was in 3 years time more or less...but you said you got problems with your gait as well...Is it around your hips like mine...do you feel pain sometimes? I am asking you because in the past I would fall down and never bother either, I never got really hurted after all...but now it is different for me.I can hear noises like clicking inside too...that is weird too...lol!!! Well, Cathleen thanks again, my dear mom was just like you..laughing way at life! All the best wishes to you! Joana in London
