Guest guest
aldo in blood or urine pref best for testing. Renin in blood.See belowDr. Grim's Perfect Primary Aldosteronism Blood and Urine Testing to diagnose PA in one day. 1. Eat a regular to high salt diet for 2 weeks.2. No BP meds in last 4-12 weeks depending on meds.3. Collect 24 hr urine for Na, K and creatinine and aldosterone. Do not lose a drop of this liquid gold. It is impossible to interpret the renin and aldo without this.4. The morning you finish the 24 hr urine have fasting blood drawn for renin, aldo and K using our guidelines to get an accurate K. Try to get this done about 4 hours after you have been out of bed.5. Send us the results with the normal values for your lab.6. If you ever have a salt (saline) infusion test for PA be certain to ask them to measure how much you pee during the 4 hours of the infusion. If it is 1-1.5 liter of urine it strongly suggests that you may have PA. If more tha 1.5 L you almost certainly have PA. Welcome1. Read my article in our files on the evolution of PA (Evolution_of_PA-Grim.pdf ) and take to all members of health care team. Tell us what stage you believe you are in.2. Read our Conn's stories files and then give us your own in as much detail as you can. To see others' stories, on the Hyperaldosteronism home page, go to Files/Conns Stories. You'll find instructions in "A - How to put your story here.doc " 3. Get the DASH diet book by T. et al, read it and use it. $8 in paperback at your local bookstore.or go to http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.pdfdownload this 64 page booklet free and do the Week on the DASH Diet for 2 weeks. If you are on BP meds be prepared for a large fall in BP and let your Dr. know you are doing this. I strongly recommend you get the book! One of the best sources for foods of low sodium content I recommend ricediet.com4. Measure your BP daily so you can see if it is getting better. If you are taking meds be sure to tell your health care team you are doing this as your BP may plummet to normal quickly.5. Go to familyhistory.hhs.gov and do your detailed family medical history so we can review with you to help Dx familial causes of high blood pressure and heart disease. If BP runs in your family you may save others in your family by checking their BP yourself.6. Go to our file/Conn's Articles of Note/Medications/Bravo spir 1973.pdf and read this article and take to your health care team.7. If you have been Dxed with PA already and are on Rx or have had surgery please go to http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=HIJIO_f2685379 and complete our survey with as much information as you know. If there is some information you don'k know ask us and we will help. If you need to update this as you journey thru the diagnostic/treatment process you can add another entry but label it as Nameyymmdd. For example today 6/12/09 for me would be Grim090612. This ever increasing number will allow us and you to sort your multiple entries into a dated order. 8. Guest guest
There aren't any donut lab on most of these blood test from this doc. -- Re: Re: A newbee and looking for help- Bernetta BTW licorice can cause severe HTN, low K and low renin AND low aldo. I have a adrenal tumor and high blood pressure. I am up all night going to the bathroom, I have low potassium and take RX potassium. But my aldosterone is low. I have all the low potassium symptoms. If your aldosteron is low then it's not Conn's right? That is what I have gotten from reading all the post here. Is this correct? My doc has put me on Florinef and I can barely stand to take a 1/4 of a pill they make me loose more potassium and feel really sick. Guest guest
The tumor was not cancer. I only take 40mgs of Cytomel. Most people need to take 75-125mgs to optimal on T3. -- Re: A newbee and looking for help- Bernetta Your symptoms don't seem to match 's disease. Guest guest
No this lab did not have anything else on the lab sheet except the info I provided. I will see this doc on Aug 16 so I can ask her if she knows. Aldo and renin were from the same blood. Bernetta -- Re: A newbee and looking for help- Bernetta Do you have the lab ranges. Also was the Aldo and renin from same blood sample. > > > > Hi, I am new to the group but have been a long time going to doc after doc > and including Shands hospital from Oct - April. Guest guest
Yes the aldo and renin are from the same blood test. The doc had me do a saliva test for adrenals. The HC gives me bioidentical cortisol that my body doesn't have. -- Re: A newbee and looking for help- Bernetta Is this blood or urine Aldosterone. If blood it isn't low. Renin is tested in blood. To test for PA need to have both blood aldosterone and renin from same blood sample. Hyrocortisone Isn't a good med to take unless you really need it. What test have you had to indicate you need to take it? > > > > You need to post your test results, with normal bands. > > Val > > > From: hyperaldosteronism > [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Bernetta Elliott > > Hi, I am new to the group but have been a long time going to doc after doc > and including Shands hospital from Oct - April. Guest guest
I have never heard of needing hormones your body does not have. What does bioidentical mean exactly. If he was measuring ur hormones I would want to verify which lab he was using.
