Guest guest
If you're in the market for trees or other plants or had been thinking about it and suffering from sticker shock, you should know about this.We are redoing the landscaping in our yard--big project--trees coming down, yard leveling, resodding, rock retaining wall, etc etc. In the market for some BIG trees so that I wouldn't have to wait until I was 90 for the trees to be taller than I am...Last Sunday we stumbled across KARAM NURSERY on Redlands Road in Oregon City. Big sign out front:50% OFF ALL NURSERY STOCK[They've been in the nursery/landscaping business for over 30 years.]STOP THE CAR--in the rain, wind, miserable day. Who cares. Good sale and I'm am Oregonian. We bought some beautiful mature Japanese maples (green, coral bark and lace leaf) for a ridiculously low prices. One really large green leaf Japanese Maple--3" diameter/caliper trunk with big muscular branches and beautifully pruned canopy. Had been $300 (already a good price)--bought for $150.Two 'smaller' green leaf Japanese Maples about 2" diameter--actually really big trees--had been $120, bought for $60 ea. These are tall trees. Maybe 10-12' tall?? A coral bark maple (Sangu kaku) w/ 1.5-2" diameter trunk , about 10' tall, beautiful vase shaped and nicely pruned tree--had been $200. Bought for $100.An erect lace leaf maple--1.5" diameter trunk, probably 9 ft tall, graceful, erect trunk--had been $300, bought for $150.We also bought some beautiful climbing hydrangea. I think they were $30 and we got them for $15 each. They had a lot of other nursery stock, including some incredible Bloodgood red Japanese maples that were HUGE--$600 trees, very mature and beautifully shaped, so now only $300.We stopped at another nursery on the way home and even a 6 ft spindly little Japanese maple was $100-150.Fruit trees, beeches, various shrubs. Very nice folks to work with.I'm guessing once the nice weather gets here that 50% sale sign will be nowhere to be found.
