Guest guest
Okay, I did MIS (Cathe's Maximum Intensity Strength) this morning and absolutely loved it! Anyway, I'm seriously considering finding space for a barbell now but have a couple of questions. 1. This is most important... how tightly do you have to grip a barbell? I know with dumbbells you don't want to grip them super tightly (my fingers are usually really loose) but is that also true with barbells? My RA affects my fingers most with grip especially being affected most days. I cannot grip things tightly without dealing with a lot of pain especially when I release and later on, after whatever I'm doing is over too. (I cannot weed gardens by hand for example.) Would I be able to use a barbell safely and effectively? 2. Assuming the answer to #1 is yes, I'd be fine with one... how do you buy a barbell? Do you usually get plates with it (that is what they call the barbell weights isn't it?) or do you purchase those separately? What weights would you start with if you buy them separately? Also, is there a standard weight for the bar? If not, how do you choose the weight to get for that? 3. Can you store the bar and plates separately (to save space)? 4. Anything else I should know? Thanks for the help!
