Again, group, can we talk? You know...bathroom hygiene? Yes, it's

me again, bringing it up. I must have an ADA taller toilet, or one

with a riser, and washlet.

I have been under due stress as I'm living a my Mother's home where

her bathrooms are not accessible for me. I have been using a potty

chair frame place over the toilet to raise me higher. So, it has

taken me two months to get my toileting to accommodate my needs. I

wanted to do it here as inexpensively as possible. (saving)

I would like to share with the group about Washlets...they are seat

bidets. Bidets are seperate units. Washlets are place on your

toilet in place of your toilet seat. You can either have cold water

wash or purchase one with heat that has to be plugged into an

outlet. You can have a right or left handle on most models, I

believe, and there are those that have button controls (I don't know

about those for us with limited force of our fingers. Mine has a

long handle/lever.) It is a life saver to me. It was advertised in

Quest magazine and they are a company out of Colorado called

Lubidet. They don't advertise any more but they are on the internet.

Also, have you heard of a Toilevator? It is a 3.5 " riser (platform)

that you use with your existing toilet instead of purchasing an ADA

one. It holds up to 500 lbs. It is a white plasic platform that

comes with all the parts needed, waste line extender and seals.

I called a Plumber and he had to go and get longer bolts - he said

just for my safety as it was being placed on a tile floor and he

didn't want it slipping. He installed my Toilevator, Mom's original

home toilet, and my washlet. I got this all done for $215.00. I

almost cried as I've waited two months and it's been crappy!! Also,

urine is a skin breakdown. I might add here that her showers are

not accessible and I bath at kitchen sink or use the pre-packaged

Bath Clothes that come 8 cloths to a package that you can put into

the microwave. I now have a home health aid coming twice a week to

help me on my backside as we're trying to prevent pressure sores,

etc. She also changes my bed linens. A nurse comes and takes my

blood pressure and is working with me on my diet and diet journal.

I had to get over my embarrasment over my situation, I did not want

my husband involved in any of this. I can't remodel her bathroom

rather I don't want to as I want my own home someday probably next

year.

Tuesday, they're coming with samples of power chairs that

tilt/elevate/recline. I was evaluated and people are not to " live "

in a scooter. So, I'll use the power chair at home and use the

scooter in my van when I go out. The tilt feature and leg elevation

will solve my pressure and other problems - so they say. Everything

just takes a lot of time ! The seating problem was I need more

depth in the seat area and it's cutting into the back of my thighs.

I'm miserable because of it. Only relieve is to get into bed and I

hate that as I'm not sick! I just have a mobility problem!!
