Guest guest
Dear ers, I have just scanned the National Library of Medicine for " CMT Phrenic Nerve involvement " . Below is the latest research from last October 2005. There are only 14 abstracts listed, dating as far back as April 1987 - that's almost 20 years now. ~ Gretchen Tenn Med. 2005 Oct;98(10):495-7. Phrenic nerve involvement in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Abboud L, El SF, Takubo T, Byrd RP Jr, Roy TM. H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN 37684-4000, USA. Diaphragmatic weakness in Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease may be more common than generally acknowledged. Recognizing diaphragmatic weakness in a patient with CMT is important since recognition of this process may help explain the symptoms of breathlessness and orthopnea, as well as the development of hypercarbia. Although most patients with CMT have a normal lifespan, the subset of patients with diaphragmatic weakness may be at a higher risk of pulmonary morbidity and early mortality. Elevation of one or both hemidiaphragms on chest roentgenogram should raise the suspicion of diaphragmatic dysfunction and prompt further investigation.
