Guest guest
Good for you! I was excited to read your post. You are really making a significant change. I quit smoking on 9/23/06 :-) As far as when you will see the changes, I am sure you'll get lots of feedback from other posters but I wanted to chime in with what my experience has been so far. I am in my 5th week, 31st day of the challenge and I have lost zero pounds and 12 inches! So, don't forget to take all the measurements you can (I took neck, chest, forearm, bicep, waist, hips, thigh, knee and calf!) so you can see your progress. For me, no weight loss yet but I have gone from 56% body fat to 51% body fat. 5% lost in just over 4 weeks but I wouldn't have known if I just looked at the scale. Best of luck! > The hardest part is 6 meals. For someone who has gone from big macs, and ho > ho's, and big gulp coca colas to healthy food and 12 glasses of water it > has been an adjustment. Guest guest
Hi Cat, It sounds like a ton of changes!... and good for you for quitting smoking (you too bombachita)! I quit November 24th, 2002. Do not get discouraged if you don't see any results on the scale for a while. Bombachita is right... take tons of measurements, because that is where you'll most likely see the difference first. If you don't feel like change is happening at first, just stick with it. The changes will come. Do enjoy your free day. Don't overdo it, but do make sure to enjoy something you've been craving. Your free day is your reward to yourself for sticking to the program all week. From what I remember (I left my book on my desk at work), it's what you are eating, and how you are eating most of the time. Also, if you don't allow yourself a day every week to eat whenever and whatever (within reason) you want, how are you going to stick with a program for life? No one can completely deprive him or herself. I can't pass up chocolate chip cookies for the rest of my life... but I can pass them up until Sunday... and then boy do I enjoy them even more! Good luck!
Guest guest
I started on Monday as well. Looks like we have the same goals. I am 46 a single working mom of a teenage son. I have followed the book to a T as well and I am loving those sore muscles. We seem to be about the same in weight and height - you do have an inch on me and I have several years on you in age. I weighed 270 pounds at my heaviest - did 4 BFL challenges and lost 110 pounds. I have kept most of it off for almost 4 years - but I started gaining weight again and have found 25 pounds of that 110 again. It was time to put a stop to that and here I am. I want to be the best I can be and I feel like this year is my year! Here is what says about Hussman says about FREE DAY: A few words about your free day. You should think of the free day as an opportunity to choose " unauthorized " foods. It's not about losing control. It's about making choices and enjoying those choices. The danger of going overboard is that a wild pig-out style free day can blow several days of " caloric deficits " that are essential for fat loss, and can also be detrimental for people who tend to be binge eaters. If you're not a little careful, the idea of " free days " can create an " all or nothing " mindset and sets up binge eating patterns that are hard to eliminate later. That said, kept in perspective, the free day may help counter the risk that your body senses a fasting state. Metabolically, you're trying to convince your body that it doesn't have to lower its metabolism, shed muscle, or defend its fat stores in response to the change in its " environment " . You don't need a huge number of extra calories to do that. It's good if your free meals make you feel warm, and it's great if you actually break a light sweat. The free day gives you something to look forward to, keeps your body " confused " , and gives you a chance to have that pizza and ice cream you've been eying all week, but don't go way overboard. There's some evidence that cycling high and low caloric periods with weight training can help muscle gains, but the effective cycle is evidently about two weeks, not one day. And if your primary concern is fat loss, I wouldn't try to get that fancy. http://www.hussmanfitness.org/html/TPBodyforLife.html Good luck to you on your journey - WE CAN DO IT! ~ Click wrote: Hello all, My name is and I am SAHM to 3 boys in Texas. I had my body fat tested at the gym with calipers and was shocked to learn that I am currently 41% body fat. I am 5’8” and 182 pounds , I knew I was heavy but 41% BODY FAT? Needless to say that was a little overwhelming…. At 31 years old I know my goals are attainable. I am so glad that I got started now instead of waiting until the big 40. I have read the BFL book 4 times, as well as the BFL for Women, in the last two weeks, I also ordered the success journal and I have to say I LOVE IT! The daily progress reports are awesome and really help to keep me on track. So here are my questions: How long do you guys think it will take for me to start to see results? I have a LONG way to go so I don’t expect a LOT at first but it would be nice to see SOMETHING for all of my hard work at the end of this week. As far as “free days” go how is the best way to handle that? Guest guest
! Just want to congratulate you on making the right choices so far. i gave up caffiene 3 years ago and can't imagine how hard it would be to do that AND give up cigerettes too! Way to go! You will feel so much better. The drinking of the water will help and before long you will crave the water. For me, the BFL way of eating just made me feel so good that I will always strive to eat this way. I started noticing changes in my shoulders and arms in just a few weeks. My thighs in about a month. For me, the hardest will be to lose the stomach and see definition there. That is where I gain the most. Hang in there! Keep it up and get in shape now at your age ... it will not be as hard as it is for me at mine (48). Jeanie New To Body For Life.. Hello all, My name is and I am SAHM to 3 boys in Texas. Guest guest
Hey Cat and Bren, I started out in Sept at almost 46% bodyfat. In my first challenge I lost 16% of that, ending with 30% at 12 weeks. I took off a month, and I'm now in week 4 of my 2nd challenge. I'm seeing some major results in body composition, and I first saw them at about 4 weeks. The great thing is that I still weigh a lot, but it's totally reconfigured. I'm starting to strip off the fat this challenge, and I'm so excited to see definition emerging. I am looking forward to taking week 4 pics tomorrow, and seeing how far I " ve come--my hubby says I'm " deflating " . Thanks, dear. ; ) On free day--I was a hog first challenge. Really gross. Now I'm happy with a couple of free meals, the aversion therapy worked with me. For the most part. I will be flexible this challege as before, but so far, no pigout free days. : ) Congratulations to both of you for how far you've come. : ) Best Regards, beth Re: New To Body For Life.. Guest guest
Way to go. It took me a lot longer to really follow the eating, but now it is really not that hard as long as I plan. Last night I got lazy and didn't pack my stuff, so had to moan and complain about it this morning. But I feel SO MUCH BETTER. My daily mood is better and I just want to keep the momentum going. Extra kudos to you for giving up cigarettes. Once you get past the withdrawals, I'll bet you will feel amazing. I, too, was quite shocked by my caliper reading. I had it done by a trainer and was quite humiliated that it came back 48%!!!!!!! WHAT?? I still find it hard to believe, but it is what it is. Not know or acknowledging it does not make it go away. I figure I will become one of their greatest success stories. Here is my 2 cents on your questions. I started see more muscle definition in my arms and abs after about 6 weeks and noticed my thighs and hips were smaller. My clothes were not much looser, but they probably were too tight to begin with. It has been a couple of weeks since I've noticed much change since then. I learned the hard way that a free day can get quite out of control for me. A lot of people are able to eat pretty well and just throw in a few snacks or treats whenever they want that day, but I don't have that much will power. I have to plan for one thing/meal that I have been wanting, but now I know that if I don't have cake this week, there will still be cake in the world next week. Sorry for babbling for so long. Keep up the good work. Cara Click wrote: Hello all, My name is and I am SAHM to 3 boys in Texas. I started BFL on Monday. So far I have followed the food part of it to a T. Guest guest
HI , I am on my 2nd week. I have 4 kids, and gained alot from each of them. I also smoke and one of my goals is to give it up by my 4th week. I wanted to get the eating and exercising part down before quiting because I tend to overeat or smoke under stress. I think thats awesome for you to have given that all up. I have a cup of coffee every morning. Does giving up the caffeine help with fatloss? I used to have a big latte' every day before starting the challenge. So I have cut down the caffeine. This is my first challenge, and before I startd I hadn't done weights for 10 yrs. I did go to Curves for a year, but its not the same. Any way I have already seen results; I have lost an inch off my waist and an inch off my hips! I have also lost 2 lbs scale weight. I gained 1/4 inch on each arm (bicep)! I also feel great, more positive, and have more energy! Thats enough resuls for me to keep going. This womens club is a great way to stay motivated! To all our success! Dawn C. in Idaho
