Welcome ,

Yes, it is a good idea to see a orthopedist and a neurologist. One or both

might be able to recommend a Certified Pedortist, who can evaluate you NOW and

what you need in the way of ankle and/or leg support. You can also find a

Pedortist by going to http://cpeds.org and look on the left - for 'find an

orthotist'. They specialize in biomechanics, especially of the feet and legs. My

orthotist is just great. If you happen to live in Southern California, let me

know and I will give you his name.

You can sign up with MDA if you want to. They do help people with CMT, but

services are somewhat limited. I did not have a good experience with MDA, and

prefer to find my own 'medical team' and work directly with them.

As for the CMTA, you can join if you want to. I joined, paid, and never received

a thing. Also, bear in mind, the Executive Director does NOT have CMT. It is

important to me that organizations that help people with CMT have " management "

who have CMT too. Again, that is my experience only.

You might want to read our past posts on diet, nutrition, supplements, Vitamins

and exercise, to get an idea of how our many members help themselves, in

addition to keeping stress low and getting enough quality sleep. You may also

want to read our FILES on Vitamin C and get caught up on all the research going

on.

Know that CMT can affect persons in the SAME FAMILY differently too.

Again, welcome, I know you will find helpful and hopeful as others have.
