Injured hand?

Hey everyone!

Welll, my first week back has been very good -- I'm feeling more energy, my mood

is

improving, my food is much much better and my workouts and dance have been a

blast to

get back to.

However, yesterday I noticed that my the big muscle in my hand, the muscle

between my

thumb and pointer in the triangle that acupunturists often needle as a tonifying

point,

hurts like h***. I don't remember injuring it - but I suppose I could have been

using bad

form on my first day of upper body. But, I did upper on Monday and I didn't

have any pain

until yesterday. Today was my second upper body workout of the week, but I find

that it

really hurts a lot to hold weights (doesn't hurt as much as it did yesterday,

however) and I

don't think I can manage it without possibly reinjuring it.

Is it gonna totally throw me off to skip upper today and get back to it next

week or should

I try to get upper body in when my hand is better? If I wait until my upper for

next week,

it'll be a week and a half since I'd done any uppers. If it feels better say

tomorrow or Sun,

should I go ahead and get it in then?

Very confusing because I don't want to get off track so early in my 12 weeks!!!

By the way, I can still do my dance classes as there's no pressure on my hand at

all. So, I'll

be going to dance later this afternoon and I'll still be doing my healthy food

today, as well.

Any advice?

If your hand is obviously injured, don't do anything that will make it worse

and cause you to continue missing more workouts. Go with rest, ice and

ibuprofen and give it a chance to recover.

There might still be some upper body exercises you could do. If gripping

hurts, don't do more of it for a few days, but you might still be able to do

flat-hand exercises like push-ups and bench dips. Or you might be able to do

some resistance exercises with rubber tubing or even machines where you can

go light and push with the heel of your palm rather than wrapping your

fingers around it.

In the future (maybe like next week if your hand continues to bother you)

you could use lifting straps or hooks which take the weight off of your

fingers. These are handy for women. A lot of times we can lift more weight

than we can grip, so the fingers and hands give out before the working

muscle.

Hey !

Thanks for the sound advice. My hand is beginning to feel a little better and I

figure that

by my next upper workout day, I'll be ready to go again. I did do some puchups

and that

was okay and a few other arms things that didn't require hand usage. Thanks for

pointing

out that there are other options. The bands didn't quite work because they were

putting

pressure right where it was injured. Strange.

I think I might get those training hooks cause I remember last time, when doing

dead lifts

my hands, indeed were giving out before my legs were. Thanks for the link!
