Guest guest
one of the topics that came up was Coumarin, a blood thinnig agent. what coumarin does is thin the blood, thus induce stronger blood flow. For preagnant ladies this can put them in danger of abortion, we don't want to induce so much movement in preagnant ladies, thier growing belly is according to Chinese Medicine a good stagnation that we don't want to be rid of via moving herbs. (these are the same herbs that will induce one to get her period) Hi, I am trained as a midwife, as well as an herbalist. I have also studied Traditional Chinese Medicine. Now that my " credentials " are out of the way I would like to chime in on two things: 1) Pregnant, and soon-to-be pregnant women are prescribed blood thinners on a regular basis, both to prevent miscarriage (yes you read that correctly) and for other reasons. Hemla, in TCM the causes of miscarriage are many and one of them is " blood stagnation " which can be treated by " moving the blood " which might be accomplished by blood thinners. Pregnancy is by no means an absolute contraindication to blood thinners, however their usage in medicinal quantities must obviously be seriously cautioned. 2) dose is everything. If we are here to discuss true perfumery (as opposed to aromatherapy) I think it would be difficult to consume (via the skin) enough coumarin in a natural perfume mix to disrupt an otherwise normal pregnancy. ly, if it were that easy there would be fewer clinics around...
