Guest guest
Donna B., You said >Doctor said if I'd just lose weight the scores would lower.< Not true! High cholesterol has some type of genetic relationship. My grandfather (who died at age 94) and my mother and I all have very high cholesterol. Mine normally runs about 240. I'm thin and my mother is thinner (she's 105 lbs). Even when I was actively exercising, building muscle and stamina and eating very healthy, my cholesterol hung around 230-240. Nothing I did seemed to affect it. Apparently, the high cholesterol didn't bother my grandfather too much I'm hoping I have his genes... I don't mean to say that you shouldn't lose weight, though. I'm just saying that there isn't much correlation between weight and cholesterol, at least in my case. Heck, I had a co-worker who was about 250 lbs and his cholesterol numbers (without medication) were around 130-140.
Guest guest
: Yes, your right. My Dad had heart disease, good cholesterol. Had congential heart problems, Mom's cholesterol is good as well. My scores have always been in normal range, while heavy. The bad LDL went up to 142 in a year and should be around 70. A major increase. I told her it was eating out and eating fried foods, etc. for 6 mos. in Anaheim. So, they're going to see if in 3 mos, I can make a difference with eating right, etc. So, with me, losing weight will help. I'm struggling with it, but really trying hard. Donna B. Guest guest
Hello Donna B., There's FAST FOOD and there's fast food. You can do very well at DeAngelo's and Subway with just a little research into their ratings for fat, salt, and calories. The main thing there is to stay away from all of the dressings and condiments except maybe honey/mustard. Having had three open heart surgeries, I have found this out of necessity. The surgeries were repeated because of a staph infection. EdM from NH
Guest guest
Hi, Ed: I wish Subway's had drive thrus !!! It's hot here in Texas and I'm staying in. Yes, I am with it now. If I get out I put my purse in back seat of van so I won't have money to go into any drive thru. Lean Cusine's are ruling here now, High protein no fat or sugar drink, Akins breakfast bar, apple, 2 lean cusines and two piece of stone ground wheat bread and 4 waters. I've got to increase water to half my weight in ounces. So, I'm just drink half of the total ounces I need to be. Oh, I have a Slim Fast low carb snack bar with hot herbal tea at night. Calorie wise not enough but I don't move a lot so I have to deal with a little hunger but the water is definitely helping. To have to have surgery again, Ed, you must really be a fighter. Thanks for sharing with me. Donna B.
