My motivation is that I know it works....... I saw it work with my husband and

feel like 12 weeks is a doable commitment. Follow the food program!! Do the

exercise! When you see the results you WILL be motivated. And take the before

pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 6 weeks into this and cannot believe I have calve

muscles. My flab on my arms is going away. My butt looks better.. all these

things are motivation to me.

drop at least 45 pounds (and thats only 1/2 of what i need to lose

total) I have been fighting depression since he left and cant seem to

get of my butt and do it. I know why i need to, i just dont know how.

I really want to be fit and healthy and it will surprise my husband too.

Thank you for responding :) and I tell myself that too but its not

getting me up. My mind says " go work out now " but my body doesnt move.

I have 3 kids and I lost all the weight with my first 2. With my third

I gained the most weight. Im about 85 more than I should be.

Could it be that I'm psyching myself out by thinking its hopeless?

that Im not as young as I used to be and even if i do lose the weight,

ill still look bad?

and for those that have lost 80+ pounds, is your skin saggy? will I

need surgery at the age of 30 because my body will sag? Maybe I think

I've screwed myself beyond repair?

How about adding your kids as a motivation? How much energy do you have for

them, and if you suffer from depression I'm sure your energy levels are even

lower.

You didn't say how old they are, but can you get them involved in your

fitness program (BFL is not a diet)? Would they ride bikes while you walk,

and later run?

It's not hopeless to start exercising and eating better. Maybe all the

weight won't come off in the first 12 weeks... maybe it will... how will you

know unless you just pick yourself up and get moving.

From what I understand, if you lose the weight slowly (1-2 pounds per week),

your body better adjusts to the changes of weight loss. Have you taken a

look at the before and after photos on the BFL website?...

http://www.bodyforlife.com/success/goals/fatloss.asp. Those women don't show

signs of flabby skin in their after pictures.

What makes me motivated? I want to look better in my 40's than I did in my

30's. When I was younger I always thought I would age " gracefully " ... well

the heck with that... I've never looked my age, and I want to keep it that

way. Plus, I'm being a good role model for my son, who goes bike riding with

me (and complains that I ride too fast). I'm hoping that at some point, I

can get him to run with me... and then we can do races together when he's a

bit older.

My husband was deployed in 04/05...it's tough! I know what you are going thru.

I wanted to lose weight also before he came home, so I pretty much starved away

35 pounds on Atkins, it all came back with my first bite of chocolate on

Christmas Eve-3 days after his return. I think by doing BFL you will be

insuring more success, you will be feeding your body properly and exercising to

build lean muscles. Daily 'meditation', not the crossed legged 'oooommmm'

stuff, but quiet yourself daily, close your eyes, SEE what you want, put

yourself in that moment, FEEL what it will be like to have your hubby be shocked

at what he sees in that first look after a long absense. Any time you want to

cheat, or miss a workout take yourself there and you will want to walk away from

the ***insert trigger food here***.

Post often, let the other memebrs of this group help you and support you.

Good luck!

Sister, when I read your post it was almost as if I had written it

myself 7 months ago.. :)

I won't get into my former struggle though because it will bore you

and everyone else senseless. About motivation though, I know it's

corny to say but motivation really does grown from doing. Don't give

yourself a choice!! Go to the gym and do your workout regardless of

how you feel. In the beginning I hated every second of it and I just

forced myself to do it.. now I can't get in the gym door quick

enough but it took 4 or 5 months before that miracle occurred.

About skin, for myself, I haven't had any problem so far. I've lost

30kgs and would still like to lose maybe another 10 or 15 kgs. I

still hate my stretch marks but I refuse to spend any more time

dwelling on things I can't change. I'm so grateful for what I do

have now. I feel as if my former struggles with weight robbed me of

my 20's and half of my 30's and I don't want to lose another

precious second.

Just take the first step and keep going..and I'm sure you'll never

look back. :)

All the best

Slow down, take it one step at a time, I have around 70-75 to lose, I have 3

c-sections, I am not fooling myself, a 'six pack' is most likely not in my

future, but I'll take some saggy skin over diabetes and heart disease anyday!

I have heard that exercise and water help with the skin, but alot of it is

simple genetics, how elastic is your skin, maybe more than mine, but not as much

as mary down the street. I have talked with people who have the skin intially,

but it starts to 'shrink' over time.

The benefits to getting the weight off will outweigh all the saggy skin

issues, so maybe you will have surgery some day, I actually look forward to the

time when I can actually make a choice, but wait and see what you have at the

end first, don't put the cart before the horse....the energy and stamina you

will have will so impress your hubby, and family, it's not worth the stress at

this time to worry about it....YOU WILL DO THIS!

It is hard for busy, exhausted, large moms to get started finding a

way back to wellness. I can relate. I have a 7 and a 14 year old.

BFL got me from a size 20 to a size 10. I am currently a size 14 for

various reasons, but I am heading for the size 12, not the size 16 :)

Be kind to yourself as you would to your beloved sister or a best

friend. You don't have to change 100% over night.

On my worst motivation days...I say to myself, " Well, I don't feel

like exercising, but I will just do it for 5 minutes anyway because I

really want to start being healthier. "

Stand up, dance to music, or put on a video if you want " company " .

I like the old videos... Powter (Burn Fat and Get Fit) and

(Dance Your Pants Off). The one is

especially motivating as 1/2 the folks have made big transformations

or are half-way through one. Can you tell I am over 50?

Breathe...smile...

Get up an hour earlier than the kids (Tell yourself you can head back

to bed in 10 minutes if you aren't feeling good.) 99% of the time the

breathing and the music make me feel great.

A few days/weeks later, you'll be heading out for a walk/jog for

aerobic time.

Right after exercising, have a BFL meal and head to the grocery store

to stock up on the frozen veggies and lean proteins that will get you

through the first couple of weeks. Clean out the " junk " as you

restock the 'frig and pantry.

Listen to the free interviews at www.bodychangers.com.

Take it one moment at a time.

Keep drinking water and breathing deep :)

my favorite motivation is watching " the biggest loser " on tv. i've been

watching marathons (and lately there have been a few for past seasons)

on cable tv so it was easy to see the transformation of the contestants

who lasted past two or three weeks. i'm not an obese person and i'm not

too overly overwieght, but i could lose some weight. seeing the

transformation of the people on the show, seeing how hard these people

worked to look good, and wanting to be healthier (for themselves and

their families/friends) makes me want to keep trying. it's ok to

struggle with something, with anything in life, as long as you know you

can get somethng good out of it at the end and you can maintain it.

by the way, i use some of the exercises they do in the show for myself.

My husband was career navy for 20 years so boy do I know how it feels

to be in your shoes. One thing I did that help me a lot was I bought a

pretty dress in a size I felt I should be able to fit into if I stayed

dedicated to my food plan and workouts. Then I hung it up on the out

side of my bedroom closet door. every time I walked into my room and

when I went to bed at night there it would be reminding me of my goal.

I would imagine how great I would look once I fit ino that dress. I am

please to say I was able to fit into that dress when he returned home

and was it a great feeling. It is a motivation I have used since then

this challange I bought a great little white bikini in a size 5 I am

determined to fit into it by the end of the 12 weeks. Seing it several

times a day helps to keep me motivated.

wow, this group moves really fast, hehe

Thank you all for responding. I think someone asked how old my kids

are-Theyre 4, 7, and 12. I tried taking the kids out, but we live in a

newly developed neighborhood, there are no sidewalks, and there are

some real jerks driving down the street at 70mph. I do have a

treadmill, bowflex and weigh bench in my garage so I have everything i

need. So I'm assuming it is because Im depressed. I get enough sleep

at night, but still take 2-3 hour naps. I get tired at 10-11pm even

though Ive napped so it seems Im sleeping forever. Im either in bed,

on the couch, or in front of the comp to talk to my husband. i feel

like crap and i want to work out. i tell myself i want to 10 times a

day-what the heck is wrong with me?

i need to snap out of this but I know that its because my husband is

gone. I was so happy before he left. I was working out and things were

perfect. and now im just making excuses and letting myself be sad

because hes gone.

Thanks for all the advice. I need to wake up, fast.

Anastasia,

I have the bench plus the Lat attachment. I didnt get the leg

attachment since there are so many leg exercises you can do with out

it. Plus I only do legs every other week because they bulk up quickly.

  • 7 months later...

> What's your motivation to keep going?

Motivation for my cardio mornings is that it is now broken into

" chunks " , which helps.

Before, I would get on the nordic track and crank along for 45

minutes. BOR-ing! hard to stay motivated. Though I was starting to

do some intervals with weights, which would make the time pass

more quickly.

But since I have been doing BFL, I do a 10 minute warm-up on the

NT at an easy to moderate pace. Then I do interval training on the

NT for 20 minutes (1 to 1.5 minutes all-out, and then 2 minutes for

my HR to drop back down, rinse, repeat). Then back to a

moderately paced cool down and a few abs thrown in for good

measure.

The chunks make it more bearable, and thus more enjoyable.

As far as motivation for actually doing it? Guilt! Guilt has always

been a major source of motivation for me ( " Oh, I'll feel so guilty if I

don't get up at 5 AM to exercise. " )

:) Dana
