Hi,

Good lord, Margaret, that's awful! Poor baby. I'd heard to many stories like yours prior to giving birth, it's appalling what our babies are put through when they are at their most vulnerable. Was there actually anything wrong with H? I know of several babies who were given antibiotics for no apparent reason whatsoever, just as a precaution.

No, he was never out of my sight/arms the first 24 hours of his life (in the hospital). Then we went home and I've never been apart from him since then.

I was a complete control freak about the hospital - we even left AMA because I didn't even want staff around him. I even hired someone to come with me during the labour and after his birth to keep the needles/suction/IV's, etc away from him!!! (I told her to grab my baby and run out the door if they threatend intervention, lol) As it turned out, my labour was only a couple of hours and he was born as soon as I got to the hospital so there were no worries about intervention. I have very very strong feelings about intervention at birth and was hypervigilant about it to say the least.

I also knew that I didn't want him to have antibiotics in infancy - if only I'd known that I shouldn't have given him the DPT shots....at least he didn't get the MMR. Having said that, I know of two completely unvaxed kids who have ASD, so there you go....no use beating myself up over what I did, as Sara said.

enough rambling, gotta get Sir dressed!

Darla

Darla, are you sure he didn't have any as a newborn? I know he had early health issues. When I got my son's hospital file I found out they put him on 2 antibiotics at birth and gave him a lumbar puncture (several botched attempts). They never asked for permission nor informed me afterwards.Margaret

Darla,

Henry was 7 weeks early and I had lost my waters five days earlier.

But there actually was no infection found, so he didn't need

antibiotics.
