Guest guest
I have that same problem. I recognize it for what it is, and muddle through. It's not easy. I think that I am the worst person in the world on those days, and taking time for me is probably the hardest thing to do. But I really try to do it anyway. deb stephanie wrote: > > So I have this problem where when my period hits I get so completely > depressed that I can't function. Guest guest
I have to cut in here and contribute to this thread. I suffer from PMDD and for years was just insane for 10-14 days before my period. I also suffer from Endometriosis that leaves me fatigued and exhausted. I started taking a supplement called 5-HTP which helps you make your own Serotonin and now I find that I am much better and can function more normally before my period. I feel less depressed and lethargic and am able to cope more with stress. The added bonus is that it makes me sleep so well and so deeply that I wake up feeling really rested. It's unbelievable how much it's helped my sleep. I fall asleep easily and stay asleep and yet wake up no problem ready for my workout. I highly recommend this supplement for anyone having either PMS issues or sleep issues. It also stops carb cravings in their tracks. I would say this is a wonder drug, in all honesty. No side effects either! Don't beat yourself up! PMS and PMDD are real conditions and you can't help it if they strike. Eating good nutrition is a must though, and I would stay away from wheat if I were you. I feel tons better since I gave up wheat. > > > > So I have this problem where when my period hits I get so completely > > depressed that I can't function. Guest guest
I would also like to comment on this subject.. I totally know what you're going through.. two weeks out of every month I would just be miserable, the week before and the week of I felt like I was going to crawl out of my skin. I was on anti-depressant at the time and this helped me some but didn't give me nearly the relief I needed. I am now doing the continuous dose birth control with a period only 4x a year, it really is one of the best decisions I ever made! When I do have to endure my visitor it's not nearly as bad, and I'm definitely not as an emotional wreck like I was. I only wish I'd done it sooner. Best, Nikki > > > > > > So I have this problem where when my period hits I get so > completely > > > depressed that I can't function. Guest guest
Yeah, I relate, I didn't do BC pills because of the hormone thing.....ssri's work to make me feel normal - certainly not a happy pill, but normal....and I am open about it, because I'm an organic girl, vegetarian (well mostly!), and a cardiac nurse - so I really preach natural healing - but distress of the human spirit is as debilitating as diabetes, arthritis or any other chronic condition - and has a profound impact on immunity and quality of life...so if one is diabetic and refuses to treat - one is a fool - is it not so with crippling panic or depression? Its great, REALLY great, if lifestyle, diet, exercise, pranayamic breathing, can improve one's state of mind, but if it doesn't help - and many times it doesn't - people shouldn't be felt to be they are " copping out " or betraying some superior natural code by seeking a medical answer...and incidentally - ST.'s is processed in the liver and elevates enzymes more than SSRI's and I've cared for 2 cases of complete heart block from it....so it may work, but its a drug nonetheless and non regulated.... As for the nausea - taking meds at night with some food sometimes helps.... Take care!
Guest guest
After every natural cure I went on zoloft....controlled it by 6 weeks.... Guest guest
Both artificial hormones and anti-depressants made me feel ill. In fact the birth control pill made me even more depressed and gave me horrendous migraines. I am glad to have found a natural remedy that doesn't make me feel unwell and interfere with my workouts. > > > > > > So I have this problem where when my period hits I get so > completely > > > depressed that I can't function. Guest guest
I second what the other post said about 5HTP and much better deeper restful sleep (100mg) for me at least, it works way better than say melatonin (which tends to give me nightmares!) Ditto about being a slight appetite/carb control effect if taken during hte day(50mg). You can read more about it here: http://www.supplementwatch.com/suplib/supplement.asp?DocId=1000 joni > > > > > > > > So I have this problem where when my period hits I get so > > completely > > > > depressed that I can't function. Could be, but maybe you just arent looking at the right sections of your local grocery stores - mine (Raleys) usually carries 5HTP in the natural foods vitamin section, not by the pharmacy vitamins. Otherwise try a health food store - I am sure they will have it. Otherwise I just ordered some online (because I orderd some other stuff at the same time) its everywhere, but I placed my order with a new company I havent trried out before at: http://tinyurl.com/yql64e joni
