Guest guest
Would it be ok to do ab work six days a week?
Guest guest
If your goal is to never see strong well-defined abs as long as you live, training them every day is a great way to accomplish it. Hundreds of daily crunches will keep the muscles all broken down and flat. They never have a chance to recover or grow, so they'll stay nice and smooth and it will be really easy for them to hide under the fat. On the other hand, if you'd like to see some beautiful muscle tone, hit the ab muscles HARD and then let them fully recover for at least 48 hours, just like you would any other muscle group. That will allow them to develop, change shape and show through rather impressively at a higher percentage of body fat. If you go the lots-of-daily-crunches " let's make them flat as a pancake " route, your skin has to be paper thin before the ab muscles will actually show. If you want to maximize your ab workouts, check out the Ab Boot Camp routine in the club files section: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/bodyforlifewomensclub2/files/ It's meant to be done three times a week on cardio days. It lets you give your abs extra attention, but the schedule still gives the muscles enough time to recover and respond. You'll see and feel the changes pretty quickly. Plus, as an added bonus, it will hurt to laugh. :-) On 2/11/07, missmimi2007 <no_reply > wrote: > > Would it be ok to do ab work six days a week? >
Guest guest
Hey , I would LOVE to see my abs, never have and I do train them 6 days a week. My question is, I have had 2 c-sections and if I don't do ab work every day my lower abs get really tender. I've had them checked out and the Dr said that they are in really great shape (all the abwork!)and shouldn't bother me...just give it time...in the meantime, is there some light crunches that I could do that would keep my stomach from being tender, but also give my abs time to heal? Thanks! Yvette P.S. I visit your website about twice a week for info & encouragement. Thank you soooo much for taking the time to put all that together for those of us that can't! My husband loves your website also & he's really hard to impress. *grin* > > > > Would it be ok to do ab work six days a week? > > > > >
Guest guest
I'm not sure what to tell you on the c-sections. I don't think I understand what you're saying. Your abs get sore if you *don't* work them daily?? Maybe somebody else has some insight. Your abs are actually working as stabilizers any time you lift weights. Well, assuming you lift weights standing up instead of always seated on machines. So, if you were to lift weights three days a week and do ab boot camp three days a week, your abs should be pretty happily occupied every day. If you feel like they aren't occupied enough, there are isometric exercises like planks and side planks that emphasize abs as stabilizers without getting into even more crunches: http://sparkpeople.com/myspark/ex/exercises.asp?ID=7 http://sparkpeople.com/myspark/ex/exercises.asp?ID=145 Still, rest really matters when you're trying to change the shape of a muscle. That's when the change happens, not during the workout itself. If you keep doing the same thing you've always done, you'll keep getting the same result. > > Hey , > I would LOVE to see my abs, never have and I do train them 6 > days a week. Guest guest
I used to be of the same notion that more ab work was better. I did every day or almost every day ab workouts. I had low enough bodyfat that abs could actually be seen but they were kind of flat and boxy looking. Time went by and my workouts went through changes, and I ended up doing abs only twice a week and never on lower body day. Now my abs are more like mountain ranges instead of the flat boxes. So definitely hit abs hard but rest them well in between. Stasia
Guest guest
Thanks , sorry I didn't reply sooner. My folks are in town and my mom always commanderes my computer to play spider solitaire! I think it's actually the internal incision scar that get's tender, but for some reason doing crunches alleviates the tenderness. I'll have to try planks, that should work just as well as crunches as far as feeling better. If not, I'll just wait it out! Thanks again for all the help & info! You are awesome! Yvette P.S. I just got Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, WOW. He makes my head hurt trying to keep up with him. I love it so far, it all makes sense. > > > > Hey , > > I would LOVE to see my abs, never have and I do train them 6 > > days a week.
