Guest guest
Hi Jayne: The first symptom I had was the lumps on my fingers. I thought I had broken my index and middle finger playing softball catch with my daughter. My family practice md said it was osteoarthritis. He didn't seem to concerned. Not until I went to a rheumy did I find out there were medications to help. I understand about giving up on doctors. But sometimes pain meds are not enough. You need something for the inflammation too. As for your spine, I know where you are coming from. Most mornings I drag myself to the shower or tub before morning coffee just so I can move. Hot water is amazing, isn't it? Take care and hang in there. in Dallas
Guest guest
my fingers freeze so I stick them under my armpits for about ten minutes until they stop hurting and feel warm all over. Tim, Are you related to Gallagher? and.... How is it that you intend to misbehave? or is it more of a spontaneous thing? I'm not going on the roller coaster. I'll photograph you on it, ok? Guest guest
Liz, I had surgery on three fingers last March and I have about 96% improvement in flexibility. You need a good orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hands. Where are you located? Perhaps someone can e-mail you privately with a suggestion. (I'm in NC.) Best of luck to you! Guest guest
The fingers are flexible now.. just bent down at a 90 degree angle... The one dr said that if I had surgery to fix it, it would cause the fingers to be ..fixed in position. The other dr. said that a good surgery would be able to fix the joint without rendering my finger permanently stiff... I'm in Lincoln, Nebraska... I hope I don't have to go to Omaha for surgery because my husband doesno't drive and I won't have anyone with me in the hospital up there... Guest guest
Liz, Your fingers sound just like mine. Tendon inflammation and tightening caused mine to curl inward towards my palm. I could move them, but not straighten them. The orthopaedic surgeon made an incision across my palm and smaller ones near the middle joints of my fingers, then cut and lengthened the tendons. They straightened about half-way immediately. Once the incision started healing, I put an old sock over my bandages and began petting my dogs. The doc told me if I could work the hand on my own and get the fingers to straighten out, she wouldn't make be go to physical therapy; however, she told me that it was not very likely that that would happen. She said most people don't push through the pain in order to make the digits flex to the extent they need to. Well, I've been to PT before and I didn't want to go back! I petted, scratched and rubbed on my dogs for all I was worth. It worked! When I went back for my check-up, the doctor was amazed. I still have a slight curl, but no more than 10-20 degrees. Sometimes when I type for long periods, the pain flares and the fingers curl a little more, but I soak them and go back to gently rubbing my little people in fur coats! Don't you give up. A good surgeon and some creative therapy can make all the difference. Regards! P.S. There is also a condition known as " trigger finger " which is similar but not as severe. I understand that steroidal shots are sometimes used in that situation.
Guest guest
Could anyone please let me know if there has been any research on losing sensation in one or two fingers on the dominant hand? My sister recently discovered that two fingers have suddenly begun to curl under and twist. In addition, she says it feels as if they are asleep. Thanks, Gail
