Guest guest
ground almonds -- any supermarketwhat are you making?Sally Ok, I'll be particularly obtuse now - which section? I searched Waitrose and asked the staff and they looked at me like I was mad, none at Sainsbury's (although it is a smaller one), none at GNC or Holland and Barrets. I've got a couple of different recipes - one for shortbread cookies and one for peach cupcakes. Darla

Guest guest
Have you tried at healthfood shop? My healthfood shop sells Xanthum gum. Though I've stopped mixing flours myself and use ready-mixed " White bread flour " from Doves Farm sold at Sainsburys, Tesco and healthfood shops. It contains just rice, potato and tapioca flours and xanthum gam. My son can't have potatoes but he is fine with this flour - seems he does not react to potato starch. I use this flour for all my recipies. They have other kinds of ready-mixed flours but they contain corn which is out for us. Guest guest
Do you have any larger Tesco near you, they should stock all of that, I know the one in Brixton does, it stocks lots of 'ethnic' and exotic foods, large packs of almond flour and tapioca starch and other exotic flours in their asian section. xathan gum can be found in the gluten-free section (if your store has one). waitrose is usually bad on these things. Even better if you can find a decently stocked asian or even turkish shop, the one in Streatham sells all sorts of rice, potato, yam etc flour and starch, even bean flour at decent prices.. you can also try african/jamaican shops for flours. we order boxes of almond and walnut flour from HBO foods (mail order), the price is very good - wholesale, but you do end up paying around £15 for delivery so it is only worth it if ordering 2-3 boxes or more.
