Guest guest
Hi Vicky, Have you ever tested the blood histadine to see if he had high or low histamines? I will post some info that may be helpful below. But just wanted to note that you can have high histamines and some of these symptoms as well. My son has very high anxiety when his histamines are high and gets delusions like people are going to kill him or he's thinking spiders or ghosts are going to get him. So it's best to see which one your child has to know how to treat, if this is an issue for him. Hope this helps. TamiW Gavin's mom " ...low levels of histamine are associated with anxiety, paranoia and hallucinations. Since Folic acid and B12 stimulate the production of histamine, these supplements may be helpful for individuals who are low histamine, but should be avoided by those with a high histamine status. " http://www.healthrecovery.com/HRC_2006/Depression_06/D_roller_coaster.ht m#hhchild " How It Works in the Brain In your hypothalamus, histamine stimulates the release of the important neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Another role of brain histamine is to counterbalance dopamine in that area of the brain that filters sensory information coming into your brain. With too little histamine, dopamine levels are elevated. The result of too low histamine can be thought disorders or even hallucinations that feel like your mind is playing tricks on you. Other psychiatric symptoms develop when too MUCH histamine heightens and distorts the release of these key neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. When abnormally high, histamine will cause over stimulation, aggressiveness, compulsivity, and a racing brain (among other symptoms.) Guest guest
Well, the first thing we did was to stop giving the DRN supplements. Our nutritionist had already at one point suggested lowering the dose of this to see if there was a change, so I guess he suspected something in them was also contributing......... What I could see was thereby being removed, was all the B Vitamins, folic acid and alphaketoglucaric acid. We started to give instead Vitamins A, C, D, E AND K, and trace minerals, zinc and magnesium[in the form of oxypowder, one nightly] NB No calcium. Twice daily, a drink of water with 1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. Also, charcoal or citrus pectin last thing in the evening. Also, for inflammation - GASTROIMMUNE [kirkmans], cod liver oil To help cope with glutamate naturally occuring in foods - pycnogenol and grapeseed extract For gut bugs - kirkmans yeast aid, neem, artemesia, biocidin [the latter 3 of which I added in myself, after reading other advice from parents] Also sacro-b and custom probiotics 1. Enzymes - it was suggested we gop for one with a far higher amount oflipase, so I got Kirkmans enxyme complete with DPPIV, Isogest formula. Lastly, I eventually got hold of sam-e, and have used it for about a week. I have noticed the following.............. 1] Just changing the vitamins helped get rid of the 'episodes', and by 2 weeks in he was FAR happier. 2] The Glutamate issue is still there for him, I suspect - too much potato has him jumpy, and after catching him sucking the toothpaste tube my daughter brought back from camp, a new brand including carrageenan, he had a really obvious 'nervy/jumpy/upset' reaction. Apparently carrageenan is very like the substance in rice that MSG is made from. Somehow, tho, he craves glutamate foods - still asks for peas after not having them for 3 months, tries to suck the toothpaste, craves lots of meat - and I mean lots - craves potatoes. 3] His OCD is not really less - just changing from one stim to another more frequently! BUT - It no longer seems so anxious. He is just as determined to do his little quirky things, but seems less anxious with it if you can understand. 4] At one point, when we started to get organic meat from a farm shop instead of sainsbury's or tesco, I had the feeling it was giving him an extra buzz, and he seemed more 'off' and craving it. What I could see myself was that this meat was far fresher, more bloody, more meaty. Not sure what this says to me except that if God said kosher was better, then maybe He knows something I don't. [not even 'maybe'!] [no, I am not jewish, but I once read a book about how some of the apparently crazy rules in the old testament - about foods, etc. - were sensible for health, such as don't eat shellfish [common cause of allergy] and don't eat pork [at that time the most likely meat to have parasites]. 5] I find that, if he does get edgy, then giving bicarbonate is just as effective as charcoal to calm him. I just read and saved an amazing article from the chelatingkidsaustralia list about sodium bicarbonate, expounding its benefits. I could copy and paste it here, but its very long. At one point when our nutritionist said to try magnesium carbonate instead, he just was not so calm, so I thknk the bicarb is definitely beneficial - surprisingly cheap option too!! 6] I think his OCD behaviours are worse on days I have given extra yeast aid, instead of a small amount of this along with either neem or artemesia...........since ' regressed after antibiotics following MMR, and since going scd and adding sacro-b were 2 big jump forward times for him, I tend to think yeast is maybe still behind some of his OCD, Given that I also note his fungal nails are getting worse. Not wishing to leave any stone unturned, we recently [last week] saw a homeopathic specialist, who has just sent us his first thing to try - homeopathic potency of thuja, which is associated with warts, fungal toenails, 'never well since vaccines' kids, and ocd. This guy listened and asked questions for over 1 1/2 hrs, taking notes, and armed also with reams of paperwork, test results etc that we had given him, went off to study it all and consider next steps. One thing that inspired confidence in me was that he asked me if was afraid of dogs. When I told him yes, he explained that fear of dogs could be associated with hallucinations, in terms of homeopathic treatments. Our thought had been that his fear of dogs had got worse since our own dog had to be put down last summer. Now I realised it had also concurred with the beginning of his hallucinations/episodes. Mind you, they were definitely associated with eating wrong things the first 3 most obvious times it happened........... a]When we believed the waitress who said the fries were DEFINITELY only potato and oil, on holiday, and 24 hrs later he had his first terror episode. b] When the nurse told me - after he had downed the lot - that she had put his pre-med into blackcurrant juice, to prepare him for anaesthetic. Despite all I had said about diet etc. 24hrs later, the next nasty episode. c] When we gave in to the idea of gfcf sausages for him to have on Christmas day, since we were having chipolatas, thinking some no-fenol would counteract the couple of e-numbers also in the recipe. BIG MISTAKE - worst boxing day ever. Granted, he did eat stacks of them, but it was Christmas, we were loving him enjoying them so much.......etc etc. BIG OOPS! Apart from these times, when most likely a] msg, b] aspartame c] msg again were to blame, the times he has been edgiest have been after the toothpaste [carrageenan], lots of potato, lots of turkey [high glutamate, I discovered later] and lots of the organic 'bloody' meat. So - nasty episodes gone - OCD still there. Whether that tempts you to try the herbs now, I don't know, but if it rings any bells, do let me know your thoughts!! Guest guest
This is fantastically useful thanks for posting. Tom big rage after Pringles. I am now on a Pringles mission. I was in a bar and the bar maids were commenting on how moreish the Pringles were. I am afraid having lost Tom's befriender due to a Pringles related biting episode I let them know why they were moreish including Yasko's assertion that MSG would make even poo seem appetising. Fortunately this is not my local pub. Tom also wolfed a whole packet of aspartame laden " sugar free " gum (thanks Rumsfeld) and went utterly and totally off his head. In medieval times he would have been burned as a witch he was flying, raging, genuinely looked possessed for about 20 minutes. So, high glutamate, low glutamate whatever he is - absolutely no more MSG or aspartame in that boy ever again. Scary. > > Well, the first thing we did was to stop giving the DRN supplements.
