Sorry to disapoint you, but this is an artificial fragrance with some natural stuff mixed in. If you go back through the archives you should find a discussion on this.... There is no such thing as natural amber resin. Which is very depressing as I too love the smell. Ambrosia

Guest guest
Yes, I have all of my amber in a blend of jojoba/fractionated coconut oil and then added vitamin e when cool. LOVE IT.....some will solidify on the bottom but that oil? OH MY.....I constantly add new amber to this jar. 200 proof alcohol will also do it. I like oil. I can spread that amber all over my body! evie

From Essence & Alchemy: 30 drops labdanum 120 drops benzoin 6 drops vanilla In my experience, the proportions don't matter much. Those three together smell like amber. Guest guest
 From Essence & Alchemy: 30 drops labdanum 120 drops benzoin 6 drops vanilla In my experience, the proportions don't matter much. Those three together smell like amber. I was looking for that formula too. I was trying to make some amber recently. I didn't follow the formula, but I had those three, plus balsam peru, and it did end up smelling like amber anyway.  But I've always wondered, is there any quicker way to measure out 120 drops of benzoin, or more correctly, 120 gooey, gobs of benzoin? Like maybe converting it to teaspoons or ounces or whatever?  Benzoin, while having many advandages in a blend, and I'm personally rather fond of the scent, is a total pain in the neck to work with.

I have no trouble using a hot water bath, and I am one easily turned off from difficult materials. I've never weighed 120 drops of benzoin but that would weigh about 3 grams, maybe a little more. Guest guest
> Did you actually use a dropper with the benzoin? Did it get that > liquid? Did you still measure out 120 drops? Yes it goes totally liquid in a HOT hot water bath. Benzoin liquid resin from EOU. No, that's extrapolated.
Guest guest
Hi , > I have the coolest little converter program that is free if you would like it and 120 drops translates to 1.578903 tsps! I was wondering how that would work counting out 120 drops as well. Here is the link to download the software if you like...it is called convert. http://joshmadison.com/software/convert-for-windows/ Joanne --------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ -----
Guest guest
120 gooey, gobs of benzoin? Hi , Is there some reason that you don't dilute the benzoin 50/50 in alcohol? Pueblo
Guest guest
 Hi , Is there some reason that you don't dilute the benzoin 50/50 in alcohol? Pueblo Just lazy I guess. I actually thought that I should just go ahead and do that when I was writing that.  I always think that I dont want anything diluted with alcohol because I might want to mix it into oil or use it in soaps etc. but I suppose that doesnt mean that I couldng mix SOME of what I have into alcohol for my alcohol based perfumes. Guest guest
don't know if this counts, but I buy an amber resin from Taos herb company, and then I cook it in a crock pot with olive and almond oil-it smells divine

Normally, I add pieces of fresh ginger to the olive and almond oil -let it simmer in the crock pot for 3 or more days-adding amber resin each day >
Guest guest
Oh this sounds like a wonderful idea!!! I have a small one that I can use....what ratio of oil to amber resin? Thank you for such a great idea!!! Joanne
Guest guest
I do both-use as a fragrance and mix it with other essential oils, but If I was really serious about using it in a blend, I'd make a batch that was more concentrate-I'd use alot of the resin and less of the oil. Actually, I chip up fresh ginger into the olive and almond oils, let simmer for three or more days, and put amber resins in the mix each day. I don't know whether I like the way my house smells or the fragrance of the oil itself

Guest guest
Hi Adam, I think I totally messed up this recipe! I added 120 ml Frac. CO and 40 ml Jojoba Oil and I think I only should have added about 100ml!!! Isn't it something like 10 ml to every 15 drops of EO? I also diluted my labdanum with everclear and it mixed really well. Should I have done that? It just gets so darn thick thought that was the best way to keep it thinned down. Do I guess what I have is a watered down amber fragrance.....thought it smelled a bit on the weak side. Thanks for any suggestions.
