Guest guest
Hi Someone asked earlier why Butyric acid smells like vomit... I did a bit of search and found that butter (rancid only, not fresh) but also vomit contain that stuff.. The good news is that Kombucha also contains it and this is much more palatable. for more info, please check butyric acid on wikipedia. This is where I got the info. Guest guest
About a year ago ours started eating butter by the spoonful and would finish an entire stick 1/4 lb if you would let her. My dd nearly gagged while she did it. After a lot of thought we decided she must need something that's in it and we just let her have as much as she wanted. I had known about the butyric acid content and thought maybe that was it. She no longer eats the butter like that but will occasionally take a pat or two and just eat it. Not sure it's a good thing or not but it's organic and fresh. Re: Butyric acid You are right about the butyric acid and butter, Sally. It's one of the problems (IMO) with GFCF is that we lose butter. Lack of butyric acid is a contributor to constipation problems. If it's spring there now and you can get organic fresh butter made from the new-grass milk, you'd also be getting Price's X factor, which, if you believe Price, is almost magical. I don't know how it is that butter tastes so wonderful and butyric acid tastes like vomit. Exactly like vomit :-( If you're not CF it might be easier to get him to eat butter than butyric acid.Anita> > > >> > > > Has anyone used this? are there any side effects we should look out> > > > for/attempt to head off at the pass?> > > >> > > > thanks> > > >> > > > Steph> > > >> > > >> > > >> > ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -> > > >> > > > No virus found in this incoming message.> > > > Checked by AVG Free Edition.> > > > Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 269.2.0/757 - Release Date:> > 11/04/2007 17:14> > > >> > >> >> > > > ----------------------------------------------------------------> >> > No virus found in this incoming message.> > Checked by AVG Free Edition.> > Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 269.2.0/757 - Release Date: 11/04/2007 17:14> >>
Guest guest
Let us know how it goes Steph, but I'm fairly certain that if Tom will eat butryic acid and he's already proven himself with the Nystatin, that he'd be eligible for some sort of world record! Seriously though, I am trying to move away from supping everything my kid needs, and towards actually just having him eat food to provide that once in a while. Novel concept, I know, and glacial progress, but it does seem worthwhile. I also sometimes worry to that there is some sort of secret other ingredient in foods that contain high amounts of stuff we need that 'activates' or somehow complements the stuff to make it work. Good luck :-) Anita > > Ghee sounds infinitely more tasty than vomit. Guest guest
Veronique, Thanks for the kombucha tip. That has been on my list of things to do for a long time now--all the more reason to with this knowledge. The fresh butter does contain the butyric acid, but I think it only becomes that, or is liberated into that, or something, once you digest it. So, you get the good taste of butter and it won't taste like vomit until it's safely inside your belly, where, if one thinks about it, everything actually becomes unvomitted vomit :-) Anita -- In Autism-Biomedical-Europe , " Veronique " wrote: > > Hi > Someone asked earlier why Butyric acid smells like vomit... Guest guest
Hi all, I've been following this discussion on butyric acid with mild interest, but my ears pricked up when the word constipation entered the talk!!! I have a kid who suffers from this, badly at times and he gets worse when fibre is supplimented to help!!! He also was CF for a time, not now though, but still does not eat much dairy. I am thinking now that i will have to get some good butter into him to see if it helps :+)) Anyway, whilst doing some research i came across this on Pubmed, thought it might interest some of you (fairly heavy going for me!!!) http://www.jimmunol.org/cgi/content/full/171/7/3576 BW NIkki xxx > > Oh yes, sorry, ghee will work too. Guest guest
You melt butter carefully so that it doesn't burn. It turns into two liquids one on top of the other, an opaque liquid and a clear one. The opaque is the casein. The clear oil is the ghee. You pour off the oil carefully and bingo you have ghee. You can buy it (I don't know where) because Indians cook with it all the time xx Sally sassremtom wrote: > > where can you get ghee from? Guest guest
Sorry, Sally, I'm in Canada. Its not available everywhere, that's for sure. I have to drive 2.5 hours to get it at a store that carries only organic stuff, but you can culture your own butter if you can find organic (and unsalted) stuff. I've never done that but I know it's possible. Anita -- In Autism-Biomedical-Europe , Eva family wrote: > > Where do you get organic cultured butter? Guest guest
I've used ghee from Tesco in a tin - they have a couple of brands if I recall there is Plough, Khanum. The tin indicates it is pure butter ghee, but am also not certain/convinced about it being totally casein free as one of the brands indicated " milk products " under ingredients - so not sure what that means?! anyone know. I should really try to have a go doing my own and that way can do it organic. emily > > where can you get ghee from? Sara >
