Guest guest
That information is FALSE. Coconut oil is 80% saturated fat. That's just plain unhealthy for you. Google saturated fat and see for yourself. Flax oil is the bomb if you're looking for a good oil to add to your diet. Guest guest
Bodybuilders tend to guzzle coconut oil for the medium chain triglycerides. It's also a good energy source when you cut your calories and carbs down to nothing. Here's a thread about it over at t-nation: Coconut Oil http://tinyurl.com/jqg7f Doctors and medical professionals still debate it. Here's a 2-part story from WebMD. Coconut Oil: Diet Miracle or Fad? http://www.webmd.com/content/article/72/81772.htm http://www.webmd.com/content/Article/72/81772.htm?pagenumber=2 Udo Erasmus uses coconut oil as a source of medium chain triglycerides in Udo's oil blends. Here's an interesting little page talking about all of the oils he uses and why, and all of the oils he doesn't use and why: Summary Recommendations on Oils http://www.udoerasmus.com/articles/udo/summary_oils_pv.htm Bottom line, I've seen a whole lot of people try it over the years and I've never seen a single person report any serious thyroid boosting, metabolism blasting, or miracle fat loss... well, nobody who wasn't selling coconut oil or a book about coconut oil anyway. :-) It's one of those things like CLA where the talk is good and the results are either marginal or dismal. In cases where there is substantial fat loss from somebody adding coconut oil, it's usually because they were eating a low fat diet before, and adding fat blunts the appetite and reduces carb cravings, just like when we add Udo's or flax oil. If you're going to add a substantial amount of supplemental fat to your diet, I would be inclined to stick with a balanced blend that includes coconut oil rather than taking the stuff straight up. If you want to know whether it will do anything miraculous for you though, there's only one way to find out. :-) Keep us posted if you try it. > Has anyone heard or this, or used Virgin Coconut Oil to speed up > metabolism? Guest guest
So have you noticed a difference with the Udos oil. I have been adding flax seeds, ground, to my oatmeal, and with any other fats I thought I was getting enough. about 20%. Do i need to add udos as well? Guest guest
, what is your opinion about the info posted on the " Summary Recommendations on Oils " my trainer just started us on fish oil and CLA...now i'm confused again!?!?!?! it's really hard getting a straight answer about supplements. thanks, Tara K > > Bodybuilders tend to guzzle coconut oil for the medium chain > triglycerides. Guest guest
I take fish oil caps in small quantities (2-3g a day) along with lots of other healthy fats (flax, nuts, seeds, olives, avocados, actual fish, etc.). You do have to use a high-quality molecularly distilled fish oil that is guaranteed free of cholesterol and contaminants like mercury, PCBs, and dioxins. You wouldn't want to buy Crazy Larry's Bargain Fish Parts or anything like that. :-) Here's a summary of fish oil brands that Consumer Lab tested and approved. http://www.consumerlab.com/results/omega3.asp I really do believe that CLA is overhyped and useless. I don't think it's dangerous in small amounts, it's just that small amounts don't seem to do anything. > , what is your opinion about the info posted on the " Summary > Recommendations on Oils " > my trainer just started us on fish oil and CLA...now i'm confused > again!?!?!?! it's really hard getting a straight answer about > supplements. > thanks, > Tara K

Google saturated fat and see for yourself. Yes coconut oil is a TYPE of saturated fat, but if you did some googling yourself you would read about how not ALL saturated fats are necessarily bad for you depending on where they come from(animal verses plant) and how they are then used in the human body. Partially hydrogentated oils is another story tho - transfats are BAD! The jury may be out with opponents on each side, quite like the soy debate of yes its good vs no its terrible for you. I know its hard to keep up with the controversy, everything will kill ya so moderation is my mantra! Take your side, but mine is on the organic coconut use side. (note organic) Not an EFA, its a different kind of oil to supplement with. Coconut oil contains lauric acid (also found in breastmilk btw), capric acid and caprylic acid which all have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Altho saturated in nature, it does not lead to increase in HDL or LDL levels, so why not? Sure I dont believe all their health claims, but I do use a shot of it in a chocolate protein blender shake a few times a week and it gives it a coconutty flavor which I also like :-) joni
