Guest guest
What are the specifications for your brand of whey? Every package is different. You're aiming for approximately 20-25 grams of protein at each meal, 20-25 grams of carb at each meal, and 4-5 grams of fat. Hope this helps- n At 10:11 AM 12/5/2006, you wrote: >I just wanted to clarify please how many teaspoons of whey protein >powder is an adequate amount for a meal when added to your nutrition >shakes? Guest guest
Hi n, Well I'm not sure because I buy my pp from my local health food who package it themselves. Unfortunately, there is no nutritional information on the packets and containers. It just says 100% pure whey protein isolate. That's it. :/ dea xx > > >I just wanted to clarify please how many teaspoons of whey protein > >powder is an adequate amount for a meal when added to your nutrition > >shakes? Guest guest
Hi Dea I'm sure if you call the local health food store, they'll be able to tell you the nutritional specifications. Or the official brand name of the product, so you can search on the web and get the stats. Otherwise, there's no way to know how much to use for a serving, or what the contents are... 100% whey protein isolate can have varying grams of carbs per serving, which will determine what you can (or cannot) add to the shake (fruit, yogurt, etc). In other words, we cannot tell you how much to use without knowing the specifics. n At 10:35 AM 12/6/2006, you wrote: >Hi n, >Well I'm not sure because I buy my pp from my local health food who >package it themselves. Guest guest
Thanks Lindsey and n I had to buy some more protein powder today so I decided to try another type which is by a company called Morlife. It says on the front 100% pure whey protein concentrate. Suggested use: 3-8 teapoons. Then in the nutritional information it says serving size 2.5g = 1 tsp. Protein per serving = 2.0g. So do you guys think that I would need to be taking closer to 8 tsps per meal? I'm starting to think that maybe I wasn't taking enough before. all the best dea xx > > >Hi n, > >Well I'm not sure because I buy my pp from my local health food who > >package it themselves. Guest guest
Dea - Where are you located? Are you in Australia? n PS - I'm not sure how helpful I can be with this. I don't use protein powder at all anymore.... But yes, if the package says that there are 2 grams of protein per serving, and a serving is designated as 1 tsp, then you need closer to 10 tsp per meal. Each gram of protein has 4 calories, and you're looking to have about 100 calories of protein per meal Each gram of carb has 4 calories and you're looking to have about 100 calories of carb per meal Each gram of fat has 9 calories and you're looking to have 30-50 calories of fat per meal. Guest guest
Yeah n, I'm an Aussie girl Thanks again for your invaluable help. I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't ask about this earlier. The whole time I've been doing the program I have only been taking a couple of teaspoons per meal. :/ I checked the nutritional information for the protein powder I was previously using whilst in the store today, and it looked fairly similar to this brand. Oh well, that sux but it's good to have found out now.. many thanks n. all the best dea xx > > Dea - > Where are you located? Guest guest
Just make sure you're not confusing teaspoons with tablespoons. A teaspoon is very small--it takes 3 teaspoons to make a tablespoon. I've seen the following abbreviations used in cookbooks: Tablespoon: T, Tblsp, tblsp Teaspoon: t, tsp, Note the difference in the capital or lowercase " T " . Guest guest
Sounds like you need about 10 tsp =3 tablespoons +1 tsp. A little easier to measure, but that way you're getting 20 grams of protein for a meal. Personally I use enough protein powder to equal 24 grams in my shakes. Guest guest
Thanks Naomi and beth Hopefully, everything should be alright now. No wonder I had no idea what everyone was talking about when they said they hated the taste of it. Guest guest
BTW, there's a vast difference between the different protein powders. If you don't like one, be sure to try another. I recently returned a giant 5-lb. bag to Costco (giant warehouse store) because I could not swallow even one sip of their powder. The smell made me gag. Then I found one at Trader Joes' that actually tastes like chocolate milk. : ) Best Regards, beth Re: Protein Powder & shakes Thanks Naomi and beth Hopefully, everything should be alright now. Guest guest
Beautiful! I will have to try and make that a stop on my next Sydney - QLD or return drive!
