Guest guest
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I was just wondering today, how much body fat someone with a high BF percentage can realistically expect/aim to lose in 12 weeks following BFL? Unfortunately, the gym I joined doesn't have a body fat scale, so I won't know what my BF percentage is until I can get hold of one or some calipers. These things are not so simple to obtain when living in a small town. :/ Good luck with your program, I wasn't familiar with the website you referred to but was just curious about your program as it sounds different to BFL. Anyway, all the best. dea xx > > I was just looking at my pictures I had posted from back in March time > frame with the ones I just took today - holy crap! Guest guest
Everybody is different, but half a percent per week or about 5-6% a challenge is pretty average. That's definitely not set in stone though. I've seen quite a few women lose 10-13% in one challenge and I've seen plenty of others struggle to lose 2-3%. Keep in mind that no testing method is totally accurate. Calipers have a margin of error of 2-3% and scales and hand-held devices can be as much as 5-8% off (usually high). All that matters is that you use the same method each time and that the trend over time is downward. You might try an online body fat calculator like Biofitness: http://www.biofitness.com/abodyfat.html Those things can be tricky though. They all ask for different measurements, and the closer your body type is to " average " the more accurate they are. People who are tiny or obese or very tall get some strange readings. They're consistently strange though, so you can still use it to track loss even if the percentage itself is off. > Sorry if this is a dumb question but I was just wondering today, how > much body fat someone with a high BF percentage can realistically > expect/aim to lose in 12 weeks following BFL? Both excellant accurate ways to track that you are going in the right direction. joni ------------------------------------------------------- *Do or do not ~ There is no try* ~ Yoda
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks so much for the information, I think I have a more realistic aim to strive for now. After having checked out the bf biofitness calculator you suggested, I am starting to wish I had remained in ignorance.. ughhhh the pain! :S I'm trying to keep in mind that you said, " people who are obese get some strange readings. " Hell, if it's accurate, then... it will just make my inevitable transformation all the more impressive! LOL *chants to myself* failure is not an option! failure is not an option! failure is not an option! > > Sorry if this is a dumb question but I was just wondering today, how > > much body fat someone with a high BF percentage can realistically > > expect/aim to lose in 12 weeks following BFL? >

I was just thinking today since I've put on 20 of the 30 lbs I lost during my first challenge last year that I'd all but LOST my wagon, forget just falling off. I need some major motivation. I'm new to post here, but read every now and again when I have time. I really do want to be a size 8 and stay there! My bodyfat is around 30% now and I'd like to be around 23% for the first time since forever. Thanks for your support - of each other and motivation...Peg
Guest guest
Hi dea, You can use this site to give you a ball park figure for your BF%. It is not accurate but it is better than nothing and just requires the use of a tape meassure. Guest guest
Hi Alecia, I'm sorry, I wasn't clear from your message which site you were referring to. Was it the Biofitness calculator site that previously suggested? http://www.biofitness.com/abodyfat.html After checking out my body fat percentage there, I am starting to think that ignorance is bliss. :/ Nah, just kidding Thank you for your post. Some good news, I went to my doctor on Friday for the first time in four months and she was really happy to see me and said she barely recognised me at first. After she weighed me we discovered that I have lost 17 kgs (34.4 lbs??) in 4 months. I've lost 3kgs (6.6 lbs???) in 3 weeks since I started BFL, and I was wondering if this might be a little high? I've been following the program as it's written, apart from the supplements. I still have another 20 or 25kgs to go I think and one of my biggest challenges will be to have patience with the process and not to do anything stupid ie. trying to speed things up. I still hate the free day. I think it's because it reminds me of episodes in my past where I've binged. It just makes me feel once I start eating something " bad " that I'm going lose control again and I won't be able to resume BFL. I had my free day yesterday and at the end of day, I was thinking, Phew! it's over. It was such a relief. Maybe it will get easier as time goes on and I get to a point where I know for sure that BFL is not a fad diet I'm on or phase but a permanent change I'm trying to integrate into my life. All the best dea xx > > > > I was just looking at my pictures I had posted from back in March > time > > frame with the ones I just took today - holy crap! Guest guest
Congratulations on your success! Re: free day. What if you ate normal BFL and added a few non- authorized foods. Say, 3. The idea is to rid yourself of any cravings that have accumulated over the week, and to bump your calories for a day so your body is fooled into thinking that nothing funny is going on with intake. Like, add real cheese to that morning eggwhite omelet. Or, mayo on your sandwich. Or, ice cream with your protein shake. Don't be afraid of this, just figure out what is comfortable for YOU and do that. Whatever it is that makes you happy and rejuventated and ready to go on to the next week. Take care, you're doing fantastic, just keep on moving toward your goal! Guest guest
Hi Jami, Thank you for your kind words, support and great suggestions. Your advice about adding a few non-authorised foods is exactly what I am trying to do at the moment. Last free day I took my kids to a circus and while we were there, they were eating stuff like blue fairy floss (what do you call it in the US.. candy floss?), hot dogs etc and they shared some with me. I hadn't eaten fairy floss since I was a kid, so it was kinda cool. I was a bit nervous about stepping on the scale the next day, but when I did I was relieved that my weight was still the same or maybe even a bit less. The last couple of days though, I realised I hadn't been drinking enough water and so I tried to make up for it last night and this morning by significantly increasing my intake. When I stepped on the scales this morning my weight had gone up by several 2 or 3 kgs.. :/ I almost had a heart attack!! I'm hoping this is more related to my water intake than anything else. Guest guest
Liza, I am with you. I just got back from five days of vacation where I didn't have a lot of control over my food and I drank every day and now I'm all bloated and blah. I'm doing a 17-day challenge of clean eats and no drinks, and last night I dreamed I ate chocolate by mistake! Ha! Being off plan did make me appreciate the sure and steady feedings that come with BfL. It is more fun than being hungry and I feel so GOOD when I am on plan! So here I go into the remainder of the year determined to drop more fat and unveil my best body ever! > C3 sucked. I'm annoyed with myself. Up 5 pounds. Back on the wagon > today. Wish me luck! I WILL NOT be a beast going into the holidays.. lol > >
Guest guest
A mini-challenge sounds like a great idea! It sure does make you appreciate the healthy feeling much more. My reflux came back, I feel like a tired, mushy slob and I can't even act all " high and mighty " around my family about how healthy I am lol....I think I miss the gloating the most...just kidding hee hee. I'm gonna make mine a 5 day clean-eating challenge first. Try not to set myself up y'know? Thanks Diane!! > C3 sucked. I'm annoyed with myself. Up 5 pounds. Back on the wagon > today. Wish me luck! Guest guest
That's is so funny, Liza! You'll get your gloat back! Five days is a good place to start. My extra vacation pounds are coming off fast. Whew. > A mini-challenge sounds like a great idea! It sure does make you > appreciate the healthy feeling much more. Guest guest
Don't forget that flying (if you did) makes you heavier for a day too as you retain water from drying out from the altitude apparently. > That's is so funny, Liza!
