Hi there. I've lost 32 pounds so far following BFL exercise (plus some

additional cardio) and kinda-sorta following BFL eating. The only thing I took

over and above a multivitamin was after 6 weeks I bought some soy protein powder

at Trader Joe's and started drinking a half serving immediately after I got home

from a weight lifting workout. (It's kind of like drinking Ovaltine.) I'd be

glad to talk to you more about it if you're interested.

Hi Cindi,

Crongratulations on your loss so far. I was just curious as to what

sort of additional cardio you were doing? Although, I would dearly

like to stay faithful to the program as it is, I seem to be

stagnating over the last couple of weeks which is contributing to my

sense of frustration. I think I am either doing something wrong or I

am not creating a caloric deficit.

hey girls..

i have lost 29-30 lbs. i am tetering on that 30 lb mark at the

moment.. i have not been religious about bfl.. but i had adapted many

pricipals.. and wow what a differnece already.. i am a food person..

binge eatter.. and emotional eater.. i started this is june.. and so

not to shabby for only a few months.. i still have 70 or so lbs to go i

am at 232 ish at the moment...

for me i have not used anything.. not shakes.. not any pills.. i do use

the bars.. kashi bars.. i like those.. and i do take a vitamin and

calcuim... but for me i think i have shocked my body i used to binge

eat and so i think just the fact i am trying to maintain 2000 cal a day

has done so much for me.. i realize now that i am the ever shrinking

woman i will need to make adjustments.. perhaps cut a bit more food

ect.. but for me.. my goal is to focus on activities and up those

before i cut any food.. i dont want a slow metabolism.. so this is my

own ideas and for now they are working..

oh so this is why i posted .. after reading you comments sounds like

your at a plateau as they call it.. this to me means you body knows

what you up to.. and dose not approve.. after all your body likes the

fat.. having fat means its doing well and storing and doing what

supposed to be done when u put extra cals in .. but when u try and take

them i feel my fat cells yell and scream.. its like little people in

there saying feed me .. feed me... so any way my point in all this..

just keep doing what your doing.. after a few weeks the body will have

no choice but to give in a shed lbs.. i think some times people want

stuff to happen fast.. but i can tell u from my experience.. this is

not quick.. but it dose work.. cause i am 28 and pretty much since the

but for me its not.. so i use the real comp..

Long post!!

Well, I think I would have lost a lot more if I had followed BFL exactly

(without the supplements because they're too expensive), but I figured if I

couldn't find an eating plan I could live with then I wasn't doing myself any

favors. So...

I started out completely sedentary, although I have been an athlete in the

past. I tried jogging for my HIIT on the first weekend and discovered just how

badly I was out of shape-- after 2 minutes of jogging (what was supposed to be

my warmup!) I decided that I'd walk/jog instead.

I typically tried to add a 30-60 minute low to medium intensity cardio workout

about 4 days a week - this varied between rollerblading (standing mostly up, so

I didn't get the big ol' calorie burn they promise on the activity calculators),

or walking/jogging, or using the ski machine without the arms. After 4 weeks of

this, I joined a rugby team which practiced twice a week and this acted as my

extra cardio. I thought I was going to DIE the first couple of practices

because they do a lot of running/jogging both in drills as well as just general

conditioning.

I followed the weight lifting and HIIT exactly, focusing on S-L-O-W lifting and

lowering, and every once in a while tossing in a couple of extra leg exercises

such as walking lunges. I focused mainly on squats and lunges, only using the

machine leg extensions and leg curls as my superset to round out my pyramid.

Ok, so as to food: I actually joined the SELF food tracker (it's free with a

subscription) and used this as a detailed listing of everything that went in my

mouth. It was a bit of a pain at first since you have to enter or find a lot of

things, but as you use it it gets easier because it remembers what you ate

before. So...I had tried writing everything down in a previous challenge

attempt, but the online form was SO much easier because as soon as I ate it I

could enter it and the cals/protein/carbs/fat were automatically tracked. So I

had a daily running log of how well I was doing that day, which helped me adjust

my eating for the remainder of the day if I made poor choices early.

I lost several pounds the first week (I think due to shocking my body), then

lost only 1 lb per week for the next 3 weeks...I was consuming too many

calories. I dropped my caloric intake from approx 1850 per day to approx 1550

per day, and this did the trick. I must say I cheated quite a bit on weekends

as opposed to one single free day, I also had a couple of free lunches. Anyway,

I ended up losing on a cycle of 1lb one week and 3-4 lbs the next week, without

making substantial changes to what I was eating.

I know that what I've described isn't exactly BFL, but I'm pretty happy with

the mods I've made to the program, and I'm not really looking to lose the vast

numbers of weight some people report, since I'm not willing to follow the eating

plan exactly.

Annie, that is great that you have come to realize what was your weakness and

are working at that. Keep up the great work. I know it must get discouraging at

times knowing you have so far to go, but doing it now at your age will be so

much better than going through life with that weight and developing other health

issues because of it. congrats on you your loss so far! Jeanie

Wow! congratulations, you look absolutely fantastic. I'm so happy

for you. What does it feel like to look back and see how far you've

come? It's great to see your pics because they really help to

reinforce one's belief that the program is going to work if we stay

on track. It's not easy to eliminate the doubts when you've had

years of dieting failures and you are operating mostly on faith when

first starting out. I was also wondering what sort of goals you have

in terms of fitness from this point forward? I hope you don't mind

my questions. All the best

Thanks for the congrats. And I don't mind at all answering

questions. Sharing my story, tips and ideas it really what keeps me

engaged and going. My part in giving back.

It's been awesome to see where I've come from. When I started my

first challenge I didn't really give myself any time to talk myself

out of it. I was the heaviest I had ever been and never really tried

dieting before (never had the need) so that probably worked in my

favor. My first 3 challenges (yes… it took me awhile, about 18

months) I followed the program exactly…I was religious about

exercising, planning and eating. And I believed full heartedly in my

free day. I'm a competitive person so having my goals written down

was a very important thing. My affirmation statements, ie. " I am fit

and healthy and look great too " really helped me too. I actually

began to believe it before I got there and the more I believed it the

harder I worked.

Now that I've made it here my goals have changed some. I work w/

trainers now to keep things fresh. I'm more focused on body

composition at the moment and using the winter months to increase my

calorie intake and build some muscle. I've taken up some boxing

training (w/ no intentions to get in the ring!). My goals tend to be

more activity centered than body focused. Next fall I'll run in our

local marathon. I like to simply try new things when working out,

see what my body can do… there's no limits now!

This link may or may not work. :-)

http://tinyurl.com/yajy54

If it doesn't, just go to the home page:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/bodyforlifewomensclub2/

Click on the Photos link to the left of the page. Change the view

(tiny text, upper left center of the page) over to List instead of

Thumbnail. Last item in the list is " BFL Challenge - May 2006. " That's

the folder.
