I was given a mushroom tincture product by the Dove clinic a year ago -

it was either to address yeast or boost the immune system, I can't

remember which now. I took it once only (drops under the tongue, they

tingled and tasted a bit savoury) and got a blinding migraine with

vomiting lasting most of a day. Did not take it again!

Yikes Steph! It sounds like they gave you poison mushrooms. Thanks

for the input. It's good to be reminded that any supp, no matter

how " natural " can have unexpected and alarming consequences.

Not at all

" poison mushroom "

does not give any symptoms at all the first few days...

so it have to be something else...

Hi Anita - I thought about it a lot and it could have been a food

intolerance reaction such as (I have) to chocolate and cheese, or it

could have been a massive die off reaction too.

Hi Nasreen,

You said, " however i didnt try simply because of the mushroom

belonging to the fungis group.and i am still at the stage of yeast

fighting "

I just wanted to let you know that many medicinal mushrooms are often

used to treat candida. They are a rich source of polysaccharides

which help the body to attack microbila invaders(Viruses,

bacteria/yeast).

http://www.herbs2000.com/herbs/herbs_reishi.htm

Reishi stimulates the maturation of immune cells known as

macrophages, which engulf and digest infectious bacteria. This

prevents secondary infections from developing into cases of chronic

bronchitis. Mature macrophages also are active against yeasts, making

reishi a valuable treatment for yeast infection.

, perhaps this was a glutamate reaction. Mushrooms are high

in glutamate, and people who have chemical intolerances often have

problems with a variety of naturally occuring chemicals. Chocolate is

high in amines, cheese has both amines and glutamates.

Poison mushroom can fell you immediately, literally in seconds,

swelling vomitting, stinging feeling. So no idea where you get that

idea from. There are wild mushrooms in the Uk that would make your

mouth swell up before they even reached your stomach. Not a few days,

a few seconds, depending on type. They may not kill you (not

poisonous toadstools) but eating them would give you a bad experience.

Tom is addicted to field mushrooms and craves them like he does MSG.

Gives him a real high. He is really really high in glutamate I think

they're linked. The more " button " the mushroom the greater he likes

it, no interest in the more exotic mushroom, texture also plays a

part. He will munch through a bag as if they're, well frankly Magic!

Then big rage, or big sensitivity, " King of the world " feelings. Just

a regular little junkie with glutamates as his Drug of Choice. Bloody

odd.

Hm, this is really interesting because both my Tom and I loooooooove

mushrooms and thai/chinese food - I have learned about salicylates

(Feingold diet) and amines/phenols (Alasdair has phenol sensitivity)

but do not know an awful lot about glutamates. We do avoid msg for

Alasdair though, all artificials and additives are off the menu for

him. I will google this - is this a Yasko thing? Sometimes I look

at the lists of all these foods and think there is nothing left I

can feed him. Do you get glutamates from meat? Would my homemade

chicken stock have glutamates?

Some foods just have huge levels. Peas - for some reason. Mushrooms.

Beef is far higher than Lamb. It's a question of balance -

glutamates are in food. It's balancing the higher level ones with

lower level ones. As you say, they have to eat!

Parmesan cheese is loaded with glutamates. Also watch items like shrimps. They are sprinkled with sulphites at point of catch in order to stop a certain black fungus from developing.
