All-Party Parliamentary Group on Autism

Notice of Meeting:

The economic impact of autism

With:

Ed Balls MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury

Prof Knapp and Romeo

TUESDAY 17 APRIL, 4pm – 5pm, COMMITTEE ROOM 16, HOUSE OF COMMONS

I am delighted to announce the next meeting of the APPG on Autism, to be held at the above date and time. Our guest speakers are as follows:

Ed Balls MP is Economic Secretary to the Treasury. He will speak about HM Treasury’s review of policy on disabled children and how the Comprehensive Spending Review will aim to improve outcomes for people with autism.

Prof Knapp and Romeo are leading a research project at the Institute of Psychiatry on the economic impact of autism. They will speak about this research, which will update a 2001 study by Prof Knapp which estimated the annual societal cost of autism at over £1bn.

This meeting will be an opportunity, ahead of the Comprehensive Spending Review, to discuss the need for investment in services for people with autism and to quiz the Minister about how the Government intends to deliver this.

Please e-mail appga@... if you wish to attend, and bring this or the attached notice with you to the House of Commons. Enter via St ’s Entrance opposite the back of Westminster Abbey.

N.B.: The room may change at short notice according to Committee Business on the day. We make every effort to ensure that meetings go ahead as planned, but meetings may occasionally be cancelled if speakers are unable to attend.
