West Coast pickers & Sunshine in a jar

This may be OT but not really, nothing is much finer to our West Coast Pallet's

than the Little Wild Blackberries. I attempted to make Pancake syrup today,

which I've forgotten how I used to do it. My goal is not Jam, it's Syrup, i.e.

Jam that didn't set up, my intent rather than accident. I doubled the recipe

and used the amount of pectin for a " single " batch. It's defenitely setting up

anyway..........It really is sunshine in a jar. Like raspberry jam, only home

canned is quite the level of divine as I'm not restricted to the commercial

requirements of cleaning and rinsing. You may easily encounter a fir needle in

mine, or grass seed. Okay, I pick out the big chunks like leaves, or

spiders.......I got 9 pints today, and I'll be heading back out to pick more

berries. Good picking right now, got a couple gallons in 2.5 hours last night.

I consider it VERY lucky when I spend the time picking and not " searching " .

so if someone can enlighten me on " syrup by design " , please share. Googling

was utterly unsuccesful for me.

Patti

(the one with the now aching back, but succesful harvesting)
