Guest guest
Dennis, You asked a question like this earlier - " How can you all wear shoes like this? " As for me, I can wear different shoes, especially those made by New Balance, because 1) I do not have leg problems nor need AFOs. 2) I do not have " foot drop " 3) I have only had soft tissue surgery on my feet, no fusions. 4) I do not have weak ankles. I'm sure you are aware by now that we all experience CMT somewhat differently, and that is unique to our genetic code. So, in essence, CMT is not a 'one size fits all' sydrome issue. I do not like Keds, personally, or anything that is a " Jane " - just reminds me too much of my CMT childhood. Earthshoes remind me of life in the 60's. Gone but not forgotten. Where I live and work people are very physically fit, outdoorsy, or beachy, and so in the many New Balance styles work well. Also the many colors and styles that Uggs come in now are very popular here, and some of the Doc s are still around (but real beat up ones, lol) I also have a few pair of Bass styles I wear on occassion. My orthotics go inside my shoes, under my feet, to give the foot bottom support, balance, stretch the toes, and provide a smoother walk that is 'heel - toe', not my 'natural toe - heel' walk. Hope this explains a bit about my experience wearing shoes. Most of all, I wear what is comfortable for my activities. In aquatics I wear an old pair of New Balance shoes, also wear these for reef walking - obviously do not wear the orthotics in water. ~ Gretchen
