Guest guest
Hi all. Please pardon my ignorance, but I really have stayed " out-of-the-loop " for years. I was diagnosed with CMT at 18 months of age, and have had 3 periods of decreased ability: Puberty, 12-13 years, rapid decline, like overnight; Early 20's; and Late 30's/early 40's. Since the first period, I have had no movement below my elbows and below my thighs. Thankfully I have never had an issue with pain. However, I went to see an ENT last year on an unrelated issue (deviated septum), when he found that I had one vocal cord smaller than the other. We both just tossed the new information into the " Interesting " file. Well, a couple of months ago I started having difficulty breathing - well, actually, it felt like my throat tightening up. I went to an allergist and was tested for allergies/asthma, and aside from a few minor allergies, those tests came out fine. I then went to my cardiologist who did a nuclear stress test on me which turned out fine, and then he did a new, state-of-the-art non-invasive angiogram test on me, which also came back fine. So, I'm back to the start. I have had a lot of stress in the last 2-4 years, but I have dealt with it as best as possible, as well as eating healthy foods. So, I'm stuck. Do people with CMT routinely develop throat and/or breathing problems as they get older (I'm 44 ... 45 on Friday) Also, can anyone help me understand why CMT seemingly progresses? I apologize for the lengthy message. Have a good day. Augold
