Guest guest
Hi Donna, welcome! I'm a single mom with 3 kids also, all boys! I have twins age 13 and a 17 y/o. One of my twins, , has OCD. I can related to the tremendous strain on the family. 's OCD seemed to come on overnight back at the beginning of 6th grade (he's in 8th now) although he had always had minor OCD behaviors. At the beginning of 6th, it was like 24-hour OCD, all new compulsions, etc. This also affected him greatly at school and his ability to do his work. His school also was unfamiliar with OCD, except perhaps for some of the more common things like contamination issues, etc., but hadn't had to deal with OCD in a student regarding issues at school. I found some info and highlighted the main sentences I wanted them to read (those that explained OCD and also related to ) and I also typed up some things regarding that I couldn't find and gave to them. Here's a couple web links you might find something relating to your daughter on that would be helpful. This website has info on lots of conditions, so don't let the " tourette syndrome " address throw you off. You can scan down the pages to the OCD info links. http://www.tourettesyndrome.net/education_tips.htm http://www.tourettesyndrome.net/Links/links_edu.htm What particular OCD behaviors does your daughter have? 's changed somewhat over time, but he said that everything he did was to keep something bad from happening to him. He did a lot of " touching " things and did some repetitive things (having to turn things on/off/on/off...a number of times), had some kind of thing going on with clocks (just HAD to see the time and would watch the clock), had to move " just right " as in getting on the bed the right way, getting up the right way, just lots of different things. Said he had to get a " just right " feeling when he did things or keep repeating. He began to avoid some things so as not to trigger his OCD. I read where someone gave you great advice about medication and treatment. Have you been able to locate anyone experienced with treating OCD? How are your other 2 kids handling this? Keep us updated! This group has been my best support for the past 2 years and has greatly educated me about OCD (along with reading everything I could!). A great place just to vent on bad days, ask questions/advice, etc. > Hi! My name is Donna, and I have three children. My 10 year old daughter has > OCD.
