Guest guest
Dear , I'm sorry I didn't answer this days ago - I'm behind on my e-mail. In response to your questions : yes, some kids stop taking medication after getting stabilized and learning to manage their symptoms through cognitive behavioral therapy. When my daughter first was diagnosed, our psychiatrist said he had many young patients who recovered more or less completely. Catching and treating it early is much, much better than trying to treat it after years of symptoms. One of the moderators of this list has at least one child who got well enough to go off her medication. Although OCD usually doesn't disappear completely, kids can learn to keep it under control. Secondly, most intensive therapy lasts about 4 months or so, followed by less frequent " tune ups " . Of course every child is different, so that's just a very general guideline. Most patients are seen once a week or twice a month, I believe.Seeing the therapist twice a week may make the whole process move along faster. A 504 plan is a set of accomodations or contingency plans to help a child succeed in school. It is put together by a group of people at the school and is tailored to fit each child. The idea is to prevent the child from failing in school due to a disability. An example of an accomodation might be having un-timed tests or allowing the child to type homework because of handwriting problems. Did this help at all? I hope so. Feel free to ask any questions you have - we've all asked them at some point! Best wishes,
