Guest guest
Donna B, Hard to respond to that one - once a muscle has atrophied, it cannot regain strength, but it is possible that other muscle groups compensate for it, something Dr. Vinci talks about in his book too. I have some loss of peroneal muscle, but through aquatics (pool exercise), I have strengthened muscles around it, as well as upper ankle muscles that I didn't know I had. At my aquatics center, all kinds of people with all kinds of syndromes and disorders have gained some sort of muscle strength after following their individual programs set up by PTs with orders from docs and helpful approaches from Aquatics trainers. Pool exercise is really wonderful therapy. At my gym there is a class called " sit and work " . It is a chair exercise class, where resistance is used with balls and bungee type cords. The class is designed for people who cannot use traditional methods, or are just starting to exercise. Muscle growth is measured there every 2 weeks. ~ Gretchen
