Guest guest
Dear ers, Because of our discussion last week on reflexes, and my doc suddenly finding mine, I contacted CMT doc Greg with a few questions. Below is his response, and below that are my questions. I had a slight suspiscion that exercise MAY be playing a role, but wanted to check this out with Greg. ~ Gretchen Hi Gretch: Yes, that is entirely possible. Reflexes are due to a combination of nerve signal and muscle response. If your muscle gets bigger from exercise then the reflexes will improve. thanks...let me know if you have further questions Greg reflexes in CMT Hello Dr. /Greg: Quick question re leg reflexes in persons with CMT. Is it possible for a person, diagnosed with CMT since childhood (type unknown by EMG/NCV's are normal), to have a lifetime history of no leg reflexes, and yet, after participating in an exercise program for a number of years and developing muscles, to all of a sudden show definite leg reflexes? Anything you can share would be appreciated. We're discussing this at , and I've been wondering if anything, and what, would cause someone to show leg reflexes in mid-life, with a very slow progression/if at all, of CMT. Is is it possible that the use of Vitamin E at 1000 IU for ten years, would have helped the " return " of leg reflexes or exercise or could it just be reinnervation that is doing it? Rather long question, lol, sorry ~ Gretchen at
