Guest guest
First, I wish to thank those that send me private emails supporting what I wrote. Certainly I did not write my long note to start any debates here. I thought I made that clear. I respect people's choices. It was my understanding from all those emails from so many of you is that you all were fighting so hard to get your child's needs met by the school and that it was an almost impossible job. I thought you were describing situations where your child's anxiety was increasing due to the school's set up. OCD is an anxiety disorder and the whole point is to find ways to reduce unnecessary anxiety for our children. Obviously if the school is meeting your child's needs, great! I thought I was being supportive by letting people know sometimes you need to stop hitting the brick wall and start looking to the right or to the left. Yes, people sometimes need to vent their frustrations and then go ahead to do what they gotta do to solve their problems. If that is what most of you were doing - just venting and not really looking for alternative solutions, then I apologize for misunderstanding. We all are so trained (myself included) to follow the well-traveled road to get to where we are going that sometimes we forget to turn right or left when the main road is blocked. And telling those in this situation to continue to hit the brick wall is not supportive, in my opinion. In summary, there is no one solution for everyone but I felt it was important to let folks know there are doable alternatives if you seek them. -
