Guest guest
Hi Sherry, I'm pleased you're having a good experience with so far. As for HANDS -- here's a link to some info from the former CMTI newsletter. http://lindacrabtree.com/cmtnews/hands%20and%20arms/handssubtitles.htm I'm sure our members will jump in and lend you a 'hand' (lol) about their experience. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Sherry: I wear carpal tunnel braces on both hands everynight and have found a lot of relief from numbness, hands going to speel and pain. If I don't and forget to put them on I wake up about every hour! Part of the time I use them during the day. My right hand/wrist is the worst so far--right handed too. Guest guest
Sherry: I had just what you describe. Things miraculously got better when I switched from Vioxx to Celebrex. Why, I don't know but it has helped for more that 3 years now. Larry
Guest guest
Hi Sherry- As I was reading your email I was shaking my head up and down giggling. We do the exact same thing with our hands at night.Like I wrote before I wake up out of a sound sleep just to keep my hand straight. I wonder if that's why my brain gets tired. LOL My husband cracks up when I say that. But it's true. I'm always figuring out how to do something and to be very careful when I walk. Oh well.I always say " it could be worse.I'm thankful for all I can do. " Be very careful about hand surgery too. Our fingers can be straightened but then they don't bend.My late son had the perfect thumb surgery yrs ago. I had 2 different doctors and had poor results with mine. I'll never have hand surgery again unless I find a doctor to fix my left thumb. Before my son died he made me promise never again. I get aggravated because I can't open my right hand to pick up my grandson. But I just use my wrist under his arm. Thankfully my left hand works well. Plus I'm right handed. CMT is such a frustrating condition. Isn't it? Great hearing from you. Let's keep comparing notes. Barb
Guest guest
My legs don't seem to hurt as much as my hands...anymore. Perhaps they are starting to have less sensation or I'm just so used to them hurting that I tend to ignore them. My hands are my biggest complaint now. Probably because I'm on the computer a lot. The doctors don't seem to believe my hands really hurt -- they look for atrophy and say my hands aren't too bad. Well, grip strength is getting less (around a 20 now) and they hurt! Guest guest
I agree my hands are four times as painful as my legs were. Now my legs are kinda dead, it's okay they do not hurt....right. Joyce
Guest guest
Dear Bree Anne, Yes, I do too. I am a painter and use my hands a lot, but for more than 3 years ago I could feel a lot of difference. Got weaker too, and many times while cooking things like vegetables, fruits, dropped off my hands just out of the blue. If the water is cold is even worse for me. I just can not function with cold water ever! Now, I am doing some exercises to see if it gets better, but it is to soon to tell you any good news. Maybe some specific hands physio would help too. I feel that those muscle close to the thumb finger and the indicator finger got very weaker and this is the bigest problem because it lost a bit of the strengh there as usual. Guest guest
Hi Bree-Anne, My left hand and I am a lefty, it is my thumb only that has lost it's strength. I call it my dead thumb. Like if I try and pick up anything thick, i.e. phone book, novel , my thumb can't hold onto it. No pain, and I can tell in between my thumb and forefinger, (the web) they call it there is no musle...I can still write and type. Where I work , I have to sign my name at work on all death certificates and birth certificates that are registered here in Pasco County Florida, but I'm thankful my thumb is just extremely weak. Take care. Elaine
Guest guest
Hi Bree-Anne and Kenny, I, too have problems with my hands. I can't do buttons, open coke cans, bottles, and many other fine-motor skill movements. I just find tools to help and keep on going. I am also suprised how fast the strength goes. The numbness is also very astonishing. Usually, I will have 2-4 weeks of really awful pain, and then afterwards there will be more numbness. Along with the pain meds, I find that soaking my hands in hot water helps. And because I usually don't have time to soak, I wash dishes with hot water and that helps. Take care, and know you are not alone,
