Guest guest
Barb, It is always hard when an employer lays one off without retraining for another position. While employers are not *required* to offer retraning, better ones may offer it, especially if the employee is a good worker and has demonstrated productivity and longevity. Wonder if your nephew asked to be retrained? Did the employer refuse? At this point, it may be best for your nephew to look into different work, first possibly updating his education. Take a look in our Files for the Career List - we put this together a long time ago, but it may give him an idea for a goal to pursue. You might also contact your State Dept. of Vocational Rehab to see if there are any programs he might qualify for in being retrained for a different type of job. ~ Gretchen
