Hi, we are military too and I can give you a lot of info regarding Tricare and

treatment. Let me know when is a good time to call. I work for Estee Lauder

and with this time of the year, I have pretty crazy hours, so I'll try my best

to be accomidating.

Welcome to the group and I look forward to talkking to you soon.

Hi,

My 16 month old son has just beed diagnosed with idiopathic infantile

scoliosis. He has an 80 degree curve and has been in a cast for a

week now. My husband is military so I don't know what our options are

as far as getting the best treatment for him. I'm terribly afraid. I

don't know much about this condition. If anyone can please inform me

a little I will really appreciate it. Thank you!!

We are in the military too and I had my share of " fights " with Tricare, however,

at the end, they have done everything we've needed for our very ill daughter,

la. Gabby is getting her Scoli care from the Texas ish Rite

Hospital for Children in Dallas, since July 2007. I wish we had been referred

there before! They are absolutely beyond amazing!

Please don't be afraid. You just must become very pro-active and create a good

relationship with your pediatrician. If you are not satisfied with your

pediatrician, ask for a change. Our Pediatrician is an awesome one and her Nurse

is amazing!

What branch of the military are you? Where are you stationed at? We are

stationed in Florida. Right now, as we have to travel from here to Dallas, Texas

for her treatment, we have to interact with the local Tricate office a lot and

they have been cooperating so far. ...Not without a little trouble at the

beginning...

Our daughter, Gabby's scoliosis is very severe and her curvature is at 140

degrees, despite of all the treatments she has had throughtout her 15 years of

life. I thank God for my husband who has chosen to be in the US Air Force, and

therefore, thanks to the military that has provided health insurance for us!

The only thing I must make sure I don't forget to tell you is that you must be

entirely, totally, pro-active in your child's health and don't take NO for an

answer until someone proves to you that is the only answer there is...

It's great you came to this forum! Here you will find a lot of information and

support!

I do not know how the military works, but the Shriners hospitals may be the best

bet for you. Where are you stationed? Do you need to get permission in order

to obtain medical treatment outside of the military? Shriners does not charge

anything for their treatment.

Hi ,

Thank you very much for your reply! We're army stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

It will probably be cheaper if I call you, so if you give me your number I will

do so at whatever time is best for you. We're waiting on PCS orders to

somewhere where our baby can get treatment. It will probably be Hawaii. There

is no pediatric orthopedic surgeon in this base. We were flown to Hawaii for

his 1st cast. I really appreciate your time!

Thanks,
