Hi Kim. African Black Soap is very special. It is made in the villages in

Africa, mainly by the same women who make Shea butter. It is wonderful for

problem skins, body odour, dry skin etc as it is very gentle. it is also

great for washing hair. It is made from a traditional recipe that is hundred

of years old . It is softish and dark brown/cream in colour, not black. It

is called black because in the olden days, the Europian peoples in African

used to say " that is the soap the black people use " . They did'nt know what

they were missing ! hahahaa.

It has a natural and earthy smell and very pure with no added colours or

fragrances. It is made from Shea butter, palm kernel oil and plantain skins.

They make their own lye from the bark of a local tree called Agow. The

skin of the plantain is dried to a precise texture under the hot African sun

and then roasted in a clay oven. The heat is kept constant in order to

achieve a particular texture and smell. The longer they are roasted the

darker the colour. The plantain plant is a natural source of vitamins A, E

and iron. I doubt whether you will be able to reproduce it in your soap

workshop ! Many have tried and there are a lot of fakes on the market.

Hope this helps you,

Blessings,

african black soap
